Default Sudden drop of download speed

Today morning I was downloading a file using Bittorrent in 2 to 8 period.

When I started the speed was about 200 KB/s,but then there was a sudden crash of download rate to mere 15-20 KB/s.And it never recovered from that.

What could be the reason behind it?

Are you still getting that speed ? There are reports of huge fluctuation during NU time due to congestion of bandwidth.

My speed tests on web are showing astronomical speed about 1.7 to 1.8 Mbps.

But the torrent speed has degraded even further.

Torrent speed depends on seed to leach ratio. If there are lots of peers, the speed wont be maximum. Also you need to set up port forwarding to achieve good speeds.

Try a Ubuntu torrent and check the speed.

    Please try

This forum really needs a sticky with posting guidelines

    "help internet slow"
    "help download slow"
    "help huge bill"

most of these questions are posted on a daily basis with little or no information for anyone that wants to help properly give advice.

Saying torrent download is slow is extremely vague; at least tell us your ping values, snr/atten, or a speedtest.net bandwidth result.

Anyway personally yes, internet speeds do on occasion fluctuate, not necessarily during the night time, but also at other times during the day.

Typically for me latencies to foreign servers suddenly shoot up to 100-150 ms above normal accompanied by moderate packet loss.

maybe bsnl is capping/blocking bittorrent traffic ?
