Default Suggest me an ISP in Bangalore

    Hi,

I do not know if this is the right thread, but since I am presently using a BSNL connection, I thought I would post this in this forum.
I live in Yeshwantpur, Bangalore. I am using a BSNL Unlimited Combo Plan 1499.

But I am facing certain difficulties:
    a) The LAN ports of the modem is not working
    b) Though mentioned unlimited, there is a catch :::: there is a max. usage cap of 25GB beyond which the connection speed reduces to 256 kbps.

Can anybody suggest some good alternatives? I have the following things to consider
    a) unlimited bandwidth
    b) at least 1 Mbps connection speed
    c) no bandwidth cap

Note: I know about Railwire, indeed Railwire has been extended to Sadashivanagar and Malleshwaram, I am just 1km away. I call Mr. Veera Reddy every week, and for the past 3 months he keeps on telling that "it would be done in a month"

What do you suggest at this moment?
    a) Wait for Railwire
    b) Fix my BSNL modem with Rs, 2000 and continue
    c) Get Airtel 1399 plan
    d) Get other ISP like Reliance, Tata Indicom etc...

    B or C

Airtel has some good plans. Also they have recently upgraded their plans to 4 Mbps. Hope you will get it in your area. But if you are happy with the current connection, just ask BSNL to change the modem. You may get it exchanged for free or nominal cost according to negotiating skills.

The main problem of the existing BSNL connection is the usage cap of 25 GB. When the total usage crosses 25 GB, the connection speed gets reduced to 256kbps, which is very much annoying.

Does Airtel also have some upper cap?

Is there any service provider who doeas not have that upper cap?

Better choose Airtel. A friend of mine is using unlimited 1 Mbps connection in Bangalore. I think it will suit you. As per him, there is no upper limit. You may check here.

I was also thinking about that and wait for railwire to come to Yeshwantpur.

But, when I asked BSNL, they are asking for a whopping Rs. 2000. I have UTStarcom Type 2 modem (model no. WZ3002G4). I am really confused whether to invest Rs. 2k for a modem that would be no longer used if I change the ISP.

Does not BSNL provides warranty for the modem, which I have purchased from BSNL? Anybody knows how to convince BSNL to provide me a modem at a lower cost?

Again, I am really disgusted with the upper cap at 25GB for the UL 1499 plan.
Does anybody know if Airtel U1399 has an upper cap or not? If yes, what is the upper cap in GB's? In general, I use >100GB per month.

You can get the modem on Rs. 80 per month rent. It is purely discretion of the officer to give you a modem replacement. Try to convince him and request a new modem. The same modem can be used for Airtel also.

Why dont you with Reliance? There is no FUP with Reliance. Am using there service from last 1.5 Years and except for some glitches there is no issue.

The plan am using is Day 1mbps & Night 2mbps with 1499+Tax.

Thanks for the info. I will check out.

I am now sure that ---
Airtel Impatience 1399 (4mbps) has a cap at 25GB. - the ultimate crap
Airtel Turbo 1299 (day 512kbps / night 1mbps) has a cap at 100GB. - better, but not attractive.

    Regarding Reliance Wireline,
    - How is the service from Reliance?
    - Does the actual downloading / uploading speed is as promised?
    - How much is the downtime? What is your experience regarding the downtime? How long does the Customer care takes to respond?
    - I live in Yeshwantpur, any ideas about the connection speed there?
    - Does they provide modem with wireless support? I mean, that can I connect my notebook to the modem without any cable?
