Exclamation Desktop does not recognize the Modem connection

    Hi,
Some days back there was a heavy thunder strom, this screwed up my modem. It was not able to connect to the internet and the computer. So I had it replaced from BSNL. Now, the new modem was getting connected to the internet (i.e the LED that corresponds to the Internet connection was glowing) but not the computer(the LED that corresponds to the LAN connection was not glowing), and the computer showed that the network connection is unplugged. So to get my head cleared of the doubt that there is no problem with the modem i took it to my friends place(who also had BSNL connection), and tried using this modem, Now I noticed that the modem failed to get connected to the internet but was connected without any problem to his computer . Now this is my doubt are these modems configured to work for one particular connection in BSNL ???!!!

    1. Please check your telephone wire for fault.
    2. Check your splitter.
    3. Please give the model name and make. Try resetting the modem and creating a new connection(only do this if you know what you are doing)

How do you connect ? Etherenet or USB ?

Check your NIC card. May be it got damaged during thunder storm.Make sure that the cable is plugged in properly at two ends.

Are you able to log in to your modem ?

Type 192.168.1.1 in your browser and check. If it works, you will be asked to enter ID and password.

Start > run >cmd > ipconfig/all, post the screen shot.

Check your splitter. Bypass it and try directly connecting to the modem.

    @njoshi
All adsl modems will work for any Indian Isp For Bsnl VPI/VCi 0 and 35.
check the links given below and select your modem. ( mention modem model/make here )
( some of them have screen shots for settings )

    2. Ignore please : New modem being tried.
As the thunderstorm could have affected the modem first RJ11 to modem
confirm you can access 192.168.1.1 admin admin.
If phone is working line Ok.
as modem is connected direct to Phone junction ( via adsl splitter)
If not modem could have been damaged..
