Post Can I use MT841 BSNL ADSL as my LAN Router?

    Hi.
I've recently got Dataone connection with Type 4 modem - MT 841, having 1 usb, 4Ethernet and 1 Wi-fi. Can i use to same modem as a lan router, to connect my 3pcs and 1 laptop (with wi-fi)?
If yes, then how? and do i need cross connected lan cables to connect PC to Modem ?

    Please suggest.
    Thanx

go to calcuttatelephones and then to broadband. There I think you can get all the information.

    Default Thanx

    Thanx Saurav for responding.

but i've get solution to my prob.

    actually its was very simple.
i wanted to connect my 2 PCs and One Wi-Fi Laptop to Broadband and as a internal network also.

I didn't had router or hub to connect internally as LAN,
But the modem from BSNL can be used as Router/hub too.
So i connected all of my pcs and laptop by straight connection ethernet cable and viola.... my network + internet connection was established.

    thanx neways..

    well hi..

i just had the same problem.. i am having 2 pcs and want to interconnect them on LAN.. plz suggest the way out.

My first pc is connected to the MT841 through USB.
The second pc is connected to MT841 through ETHERNET CABLE

however now i have somehow managed to get the internet access on both pcs. by just assigning different ip address to the 2nd machine and keeping the rest of the settings same , this gives me access to internet on second machine.. but the SPEED IS PAINFULLY slow on the second machine. it does connect but at rate of minutes to open up a webpage..
However The first pc which is connected to the MT841 through USB is pretty fast and is doing good.

    I have 2 problems.

    1) I want to access the complete PC sitting on the other and not just give web access to both.

    2) I want the speeds on both of them to be same.. or at least equal or better than the one given on the second pc.

NOTE :: iam not sure if its the problem with the cable iam using ..which imay be responsible for the low speeds on 2nd pc..as i always tend to lose 25% -to-50% when i ping different web addresses. Plz mention the type of cable i must be using.
Hoping i would get a reply from the geeks out here ,,,Thanks in advance !

    Check
    1. if the cable (eth) has any problem;
    2. if the network card has any problem (you may verify it by using 'em in someone else's comp)
    3. the DNS you've given are good enough. Try the open DNS:
    they are 208.67.222.222 and
    208.67.220.220

    4. whether the DNS in usb-ported config and that in eth-ported config are the same

    5. When I first installed my network card, it was a little slow for a week - and then it accelerated on its own; in that case you've to wait.

In any case, show us you detailed configuration (ip, gateway, dns, subnet mask...)
    Cheers.

One thing I forgot: tell us the two operating systems in usb and eth ported computers - I'd recommend linux for either.
