    Angry Assistance Required (Advanced)

I have an MT841 SmartAX modem, running Windows XP.

The ADSL link turns yellow/orange and remains stable and the rest of the factors appear normal but I'm unable to open any internet page.

My Local Area Connection sends a lot more packets than it receives. This however proves that there is no problem as far as the hardware goes. Can someone help me solve this? Its killing my productivity.

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Check your splitter. Bypass the splitter and connect directly to modem.

    2. Try a friend's modem at your place and try. You may also take your modem to your friends' and check if it is a modem fault.

No, the splitter isn't the problem. And I'm yet to check it with another computer. Thanks.

    3. Type 192.168.1.1 in your browser. ID and password admin. You will find the SNR and Attenuation values in the landing page. If not, browse through.

If in your computer there is no traffic made by you like -- Downloding, uploding, web address surfing but you see your Local LAN Icon ( Place in the task bar blue in colour) sends lots of packets and busy then this is sure your computer gets affected with spyware and virus. This spyware and virus takes all traffic for sending some information to open web and thats why you canot open a web address or browse the internet.

The only way to solve this problem is format your computer and reinstall the operating system. After reinstall of operating system install a Internet security like Kaspersky Internet security.

You have to also make sure that your LAN IP address, Gateway and DNS are set correctly. In your case the LAN IP should be started from 192.168.1.2 and Gateway should be 192.168.1.1 and DNS you can use 192.168.1.1

Yes I considered that possibility. So I backed up all my data and formatted it. The only files I have on are the system files, hardware drivers and softwares that came along during the installation.

Try Google by IP , put 209.85.153.104 in address bar of ur browser , if google opens then force DNS in your local area connection properties to 8.8.8.8 , 8.8.4.4

Also check proxy settings are not ticked in Internet options -> Connections -> LAN settings

I believe you must have tried factory reset of your modem, if not then try that.
If u have already tried factory reset of modem then Put your modem in "FULL BRIDGE/BRIDGE" mode and create Windows XP connectoid with your broadband username and password and try connecting. If you are able to browse when connected through Win XP PPPoE it will mean modem is at fault.

I think modem is playing up .
