    Exclamation BSNL Modem purchase SHOCKER!!!

    Hi everyone,

Few weeks ago, i was posting for outright purchase of modem after having it on rent for few months..... I gave an application to the CS centre here and WOW, BSNL lived upto its reputation.... They charged me full amount of Rs 1000 + Tax for the modem this month. And the bill says "Modem purchase adjustment details" !!!!! There is no adjustment here, its outright payment of full amount and the Modem deposit (Rs 500/-) is nowhere taken into account.

    Why am i mad???

    1) I had explicitly mentioned in the application that i wrote to BSNL that i have BB connection from 2009 and i have paid the Modem deposit while taking on rent. I've clearly mentioned that pls adjust this modem deposit + the rentals paid till now (50 % of rental paid to be accounted as per BSNL). And they are now asking me total amount just like that!!!

    2) I'm feeling this is outright cheating and stealing What do they think, that i grow money on trees??? How can they just overlook the basic information that the customer pays modem deposit before renting it???? And not have common sense of adjusting the deposit against the purchase of modem? The deposit has no meaning after i purchase it, so there is no question of reimbursing it when i surrender the connection. So that is ruled out since the deposit has to be given back as soon as i buy it outright.

    3) What's not helping my anger is that they never mention ALL the deposit charges while someone is applying. Look how many deposits and installation charges i've paid :

NON OYT. TEL app. deposit = 500/-
    Modem deposit = 500/-
    Security deposit = 500/-
Advanced rental deposit (Tel) = 500/-
    NPC- inst. charges = 500/-
    Inst fee broadband = 250/-

And there is no hint of these NPC inst., etc while applying. There is no mention of initial bill and deposits explicitly. Okay, this is another matter.

Now, pls guys, tell me how i can resolve this purchase issue, i'm just not ready to pay 1000 Rs for this old modem and let go of my modem deposit i've paid.

Call customer care, ask for Account Officer's phone no. . Talk to him and tell him to send a new bill after adjusting the amount.

Did you get a new modem?
If so what happened to old modem on rental ?
    Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.
    FAQ:
45 I am on Monthly Rental Scheme for the Modem and decide to opt for outright purchase of modem, what amount shall be charged from me?
Option 1: If you want to continue with the existing modem, 50% of the amount already paid as monthly rentals can be adjusted in the Sale Price of modem. Option 2: If you want a new modem, Full amount will be charged as per Prevailing Price for the new Modem and the Old Modem is to be returned in working condition.
    Quote above FAQ.
if you buy outright a new modem, why old modem on rental is to be returned is not clear. probably "One BB connection One modem" rule was made probably, when modems were not available in open market.

Your modem deposit can/may be adjusted in total bill, not for modem purchase. ( but 50% discount can be claimed even now on rentals paid )
As advised above, meet the A.O
    feedback.

Default I want to continue with this modem.

Hi essbebe, long time, but i told the person in CS centre that i have this on rent and i want to purchase it now. All he said was that i have to give an application and i mentioned all the details in Option 1, as posted by you.... I've clearly mentioned that they should adjust the deposit + rentals paid (50%). So its clear in my application that i have chosen option 1.

I've not asked them for new modem at all, just that i have it on rent and that now i want to purchase it! And there is NO NEWS of new modem as such. Its clearly a slothful mistake, they've not even read that application!!!

Yes, even for NEW purchase, since you have eventually bought new one, and the old modem deposit is / will be returned (hopefully), so they can have it back since you have just paid rentals on that effectively and you have to return it to the owner (BSNL).

P.S: I got this only when the second bill arrived!!! I got charged the same in the monthly bill. And then there is modem purchase adjustment bill. So its like they've sent me RS 1050/- bill and also the regular 500C bill too, there is no adjustments made in either.

    Please wait for feedback.
Identical case pending for me! I have also applied for disconnection BSNL BB connection as BSNL wanted some amount for "Safe Custody" as for telephone . Also suggested change to lowest tariff home 125 etc.
As I am away from Chennai for 6 months , I opted for full disconnection..
Eventually you will get the amount adjusted.
unnecessary work for both consumer and accounts section.

    Default Keep me posted...

Keep us posted on the matter dude.. There's no way i'm paying the full amount and then waiting for it to be adjusted. I've had enough. I just talked to the bill queries cell and he was saying that modem purchase details are there!!! I told him i've not got any new piece... Mentioned again that i wanted it to be adjusted for this old modem itself. Then he told that it will be adjusted in next month bill. Going on pure reputation, i don't dare trust this. I'll just not pay that bill till next month I'll not pay until they adjust it against the deposit.

P.S: BTW i'm not disconnecting BSNL, i was just trying to purchase this modem itself rather than pay rent every month....

Suggest you give an application in writing , and get a Docket number
    in your copy.
In BSNL CC everyday different persons reply to your query, and no idea if they register in their computer the complaint details , ( like Airtel )
late payment there is some surcharge, and for reconnection there could be more headaches.
Rs 500/= is not a big amount nowadays and rest assured , it will be settled.
we need some written documents to take it up with "ONLINE" complaint cell of Bsnl.
    wait...
    from "BSNL Links" below:

Hey thanks for the link, but only 200 characters are allowed!!! I just managed to scrape that modem deposit has not been adjusted....

Yes, the CC people speak anything to just terminate the call!! The work ethics are going off man, all people are just losing it to make profit.... No decent solution to be found.

I did find someone who responds to the e-mails promptly. In some accounts section. Thats a positive sign. I'll hope they''ll help out with this.

Or else, no go, just have to go to accounts officer myself. But sick of assurances dude, that this will be adjusted in "next eternity" bill.

Finally the modem deposit was adjusted this month only after complaining to the billing section.

They are also adjusting the part of rentals paid.

    Why SHOCKER ?
ADSl modem and wifi model same type ( as supplied by BSNL) sometime available at LESSER price in shops. ( new units )
YES. see web site below Note at the end.
No idea , whether you will be asked to return Type I BASIC modem. if on rental basis.
If purchased outright or own modem ( not BSNL) no need to return it.
    .:Unlimited Home Only:.
    Para two:
    Update on Post No 10:
finally they have "sold" the modem to me ,after adjusting rental paid ( for 3 years or so )and modem security deposit refunded.

    Price of modem Rs 1100/= ( as on date ) = X
    50% of rent paid for 3 years ( variable ) = Y
    Amount to be paid for outright purchase = X-Y = Z !!!!

Modem deposit P either Rs 500 or Rs 1000/
refunded as credit adjustment in telephone bill.
