Default What is the actual speed?

I am on HOME500C plan, my downstream data rate is 1950 kilo bits per second or 243 kilo bytes per second. Just downloded a 545 MB file from microsoft the speed I get varies from 196 KBPS to 204 KBPS, it did not even touched 210 not even for a second I just watched at my free down load manager window through out the download. Why there is a gap between downstream data rate and actual download speed?

    suggestions please.

For HOME500C plan bsnl provide the speed up to 2MB/s if you want to calculate the speed of any downloading plan just divide it form 8 and you get the actual downloading speed according to your plan it should be 256 but microsoft reserve 20% of browsing speed reserved for his updates you need to do some tweaks to get that back and according to the server load the speed deffer.
I hope this will clear your dought

    good day

But before complaining just confirm your downloading speed by browsing the below link "www(dot)dataone(dot)in" after browsing that link just click on "Check Download Speed" and you will come to know about your downloading speed.

Download any file from Microsoft or Cnet. It will give you an idea about your actual speed.

I think your calculation is not correct, it should be 2048 and 256, but we rarely get that speed.

mvb4u is actually lucky as he is getting 196 to 204, I used to get 220 kbps but now my actual download speed hovers around 160-180.

gauravrj that 20% reservation was made 0% by tweaks but no help

meetdilip downloaded xp sp3 from microsoft site that is the speed I mentioned in my 1 st post.

If you are getting 190 - 200 KBps, then it is good. Most of the users get somewhere around 180 KBps. Even though they advertise 240 KBps, most people do not get it.
