    Default portforwarding on S4U+ v1.0

    hello,
i've just got the bsnl connection and the router i've chosen is 1000rs one
    Model Name S4U+ v1.0
    Firmware Version 10.4.3.12.12_SI
Hardware Version Vulcan BSP v0.01 / Vulcan CSP v0.01

but iam unable to forward any port in the security section, the port field just remains inactive.
If any one of you is using this router and have done portforwarding please tell me how.
    thx.

From the version specification it seems that it is based on conexant chipset based router supplied by BSNL. From the software version all menu items of this router may be similar to the teracom modem and syrma technologies AR800V. In case of bittorrent downloads my syrma tech AR800V model automatically forwards and my bt client shows a green icon whereas my earlier utstarcom modem I need to configure it manually.

I too have the same problem with my AR 800V v3.0. Simply switch to bridge mode. All ports are open in bridge mode.

@ceaser are you on an 8 mbps plan, am I right?
If you switch to bridge mode then use a good software firewall like zone alarm, comodo.

yes ofcourse i tried it,iam getting good speeds in utorrent around 60~70 but iam unable to figure out whether the closed port affects uploading also the connectible status on some trackers would not work if my router is not port forwarded.Throw some light on this.

In the modem menu, Configuration > Internet connection > Select the setting with 0_35 > Click " edit " > Browse through the pages. You will find an option to switch between PPPoE and Bridge.

Do you see an Orange triangle at the bottom of utorrent window ? Or is a green tick ? If not the triangle and you see a green tick, nothing will hinder your connection. And you will get full speed.

It is an exclamation mark with in a triangle, Have you changed to bridge mode? Even after changing to bridge mode if you are getting triangle it means that your internet security software/anti-virus/firewall is causing the problem check the settings. In bridge mode IP address is assigned to your computer itself, the modem acts as a transparent bridge and your computer is visible to the rest of the internet as is with ports so, you need not configure any thing in bridge mode to get a green icon in utorrent client.

    1. Browse through the pages, you will find an option to choose between Bridge and PPPoE

    2. In utorrent, Options > Preferences > Connection > Enable UPnP port mapping.

To configure your modem in bridge mode delete the connection then add a new connection.Editing will not show you the options like pppoe, bridge.

You mentioned about the need of a good firewall, plz eleborate.

Ok. Take a backup of your current setting before attempting any change.

    Procedure :

Log into modem > LHS panel > Admin > Backup and Restore.

PPPoE - Suitable for connecting more than one machine at a time. Can browse by simply switching ON the modem.

Bridge - No need for port forwarding, all ports are open by default. You need to use a dialer to connect. You can connect and disconnect using the dialer. As you are not behind NAT, it is wise to use a good firewall. Zone alarm or Comodo are the best choice.

    Hope this helped.

PPPoE mode: In this mode your PPPoE session terminates on the modem/router. That means a routable or a public IP address is assigned to the router and this router is visible to the rest of the internet. The router acts like a hardware firewall and it does nat(Network Address Translation) for you. So you can share a single public IP or a single internet connection over more than one computer. If you make a request for internet it is first made to your router then gets the data and sends it to the computer which requested the data. So the outside world cannot know the devices behind the router.

Bridge mode: In this mode the modem acts like a transparent bridge and the PPPoE session terminates on your pc/laptop. The public IP address is assigned to your PC/Laptop that dials the connection. All the routing functionalities are disabled when you use a dialer from your computer, your cpe acts as modem. In this case you can connect to the internet only through one computer. In bridge mode, if you want to share internet connection then you have to configure one computer as Internet Connection Sharing host and leave it turned on if you want to use internet on other computers. As the public IP is assigned to your computer your computer is visible to the rest of the internet as is your ports. This is why you need not forward any ports in bridge mode. There is a security risk in this mode as your computer is visible to the rest of the internet.

If you wish to use bridge mode, have a good internet security suite/antivirus and a firewall combo.

If you see firewall events in bridge mode, you will find many blocked events from unknown address.

    Hope this helped you.

    1.deleted the connection
2.filled in the boxes with appropriate values
    3.selected Bridged option over PPoE
4.Unable to configer WAN address, the whole field remains inactive.
    5.Applied,Reboot,Not working,doesnt get connected
