You need a cross over cable to connect between two machines.
RJ45 is the nomenclature for the wire used to connect PC and router.
use this logic: -
connection between similar devices (modems and routers, or laptop and desktop) uses crossover cable,
different devices (modem to computer, router to computer) will use straight thru cable.
thus, if u r attaching bsnl modem to wifi router and using a desktop as well, connected to the router, thru wired connection, then,
modem to router = crossover cable,
router to desktop / laptop = straight cable,
direct from modem to computer = straight cable.
you can get crimping instructions for straight thru and crossover cables by searching a little on google.
see this for more details.

To connect pc and pc you need a cross over cable, to connect a modem and router or a modem and pc earlier you need a straight cable, but the modem/routers/switches manufactured recently can sense the type of cable and adjust accordingly. That is what we see auto mdix.
