Thread: Wireless router for BSNL SmartAX 882 Type I modem

Hi,

I have a BSNL SmartAX 882 Type I modem and I need a powerful wireless router to go with that. I am looking for a best possible match. Budget max limit 2500 rupees.

Please suggest my options.

You can get wifi modem + router for Rs. 1800 + tax from BSNL. You can also avail it for rent for Rs. 80 per month. If you use a third party wifi router you won't get support from BSNL in case of repair. If you are particular about a new router, try one from Netgear.

Mention the range ( radius) of wifi facility, and height/s involved.
ANY N type wifi router with twin antennae should work for reasonable distance.

I used one netgear DG 834G(Wireless 1x) before. My experience is pretty bad, I was disappointed with its broadcasting capabilities.

Also, I should have mentioned explicitly, I do not intend to buy BSNL router/modem, I just want to use my SmartAX MT882 Type I and plug it with a powerful wireless router to go with it.

So, please suggest based on these requirements.

Radius would be 5 - 10 metres, I live in a 3 storey bldng, the router will be located at the ground floor and I need to access it from 3rd floor or roof(4th).

I guess I'm being a bit naive about the specification
So which N type router with twin antennae you think I should go for, my budget is max 2500 rupees.

i m using belkin g router from a month no problem wat so ever, i have modem at 1st floor n i m able to connect at 3rd floor... i got it for rs 1350, there is a n router in belkin with dual antenna which will cost u around rs1800 tat fits ur budget

Thanks for ur support, I ended up with a Belkin N 150 router, but the problem is, the router is located at the basement and my room is on 3rd floor, so the signal is pretty poor(always). I need some way to boost the range so that I can access it from 3rd or 4th floor.
Please suggest a list of possible range extender for wireless N network.

I finally have purchased a Belkin 150 N Wireless router

I am planning for a router too because my MT882 is not working with Windows 7.

Do I need separate drivers for that or is MT882 not compatible with Windows 7 ?

MT882 may not work in USB mode for which drivers may not be available for Windows 7.

You can try the LAn port and check up the drivers for the ethernet card in your computer.
Update drivers , or get a lan card compatible for windows 7.

Just connect the modem "usbport cable to Lan Port of computer.

Confirm whether the ethernet card is installed in the motherboard.
or the contacts of the RJ45 port beyond repair/replacement. ( modem end or computer end )
Give details of the LAN card. ( part of mother board or PCI type )

LAN port of the Modem is not working. It never has. The one of the computer works just fine.

Presume the PORT ( connections ) is bad or modem Firmware is faulty.
Are you sure the USB port of the same modem will work ?

Have been using the same modem thru the USB port for the last ~6 years and for that I have been stuck on XP.

Are you accessing the modem settings with Ip address

Never accessed any of those numbers. I just plug the modem into my desktop with thru the USB cable provided with the modem.

When you access the modem menu pages you will get a summary
of the connection/status/Firmware etc.

I cannot access any summary with those numbers coz nothing opens.
