Unhappy Internet does not connect automatically.

I am facing a strange problem. My broadband plan is Bsnl BB 500C and modem make is Nokia Siemens C2110 using PPPoE to connect to internet.
Earlier, whenever I switched the modem on,all four lights,ie power, link, data & usb would light up and internet would be automatically connected properly. But now, when the modem is switched on,the power, link and pc button light up as before, but the data one does not light up.When I open the network connections folder(Windows XP),the internet icon shows disconnected.I right click on the internet icon and select the connect option whereby the internet gets connected and the data button lights up as before.
Please suggest how can i revert to earlier position as the latter process is quite irritating as I can no longer automatically connect to internet.
    Thanks.

Do you mean you are facing problem only when you restart your modem and not in the first attempt ?

    1. Check modem's adapter. Try it at your friends' and check if it is causing problem.

    2. Check the splitter. Make sure that it is working properly. Connect the line directly to the modem and check.

    3. Try another modem at your place and check if it is showing problem.

    4. Ask BSNL people to refresh your port at the exchange.

    Thanks for your quick response,meetdilip.
This problem happens every time I switch on the modem and not merely on restarting.I have checked the modem, changed the splitter and happens even when line is directly connected to modem.
I was wondering whether there is a problem in my pc network settings.
    Would rebooting the modem help?

I think it is more a hardware/line issue than a software issue. If you are good in maintenance, try resetting the modem and reconfigure again.

As meetdilip has said, I think it is an hardware issue.
Try resetting the modem to its default and then reconfigure it back.

As meetdilip had suggested earlier in the post, I resetted the modem and the problem is gone
Thanks to all the people for taking out their time and replying to my question.

    @atul1987
    congrats.
    1.
Now Back up current settings to say C:/My Documents/c2110 working.
    2.
ipconfig /all data was needed to check whether you are using Dialer Mode or PPPoE mode, the DNS used etc.
    3.
When you RESET the modem to factory settings, a "bridged" mode setting
for line 0_35 could have been available.
    4.
Probably you were on "Dialer" mode ( using window in computer)
