Default Opting for the Monthly Rental Scheme for BSNL Modem - Type II

    Hi friends...
    Just required some advice...
I was considering using the monthly rental option for the BSNL Type II modem.
My logic is that if I pay Rs 80 a month rent, I will break-even in 20 months i.e. 80 X 20 = 1600, which is the cost of the modem.
If I purchase the modem from BSNL, there is a high possibility that it might develop problems within 20 months and replacing under warranty will take many months with BSNL.
what my feeling is that, if I use the rental option, the BSNL ppl will replace the modem in hopefully 10 to 15 days if at all it develops any problems, whereas if I purchase the modem, it would take some months to get the warranty claims from BSNL.

Could someone plz advise whether the rent option would be a good one or directly purchasing the modem from BSNL?

In both cases, you can request a replacement from BSNL. I am using my wifi modem on rent. I have another non wifi modem, which I bought using outright purchase. With in the warranty period, there is always an option for replacement . No matter it is on rent or full payment purchase.

Here is what I suggest ..

Initially go for rent .. see it for some time (say 2-3 months).
If problems develop, you see disconnections and BSNL is not able to resolve .. just close the deal and walk out. This way your loss (if any) would be minimum.

If all goes well, and you get good signals and hardware is running fine, submit a application with BSNL that you want to purchase and deposit whatever money they ask for .. then you save on Rent, but this way your losses would be contained.

    rent it.don't buy it.
what you have stated is exactly true.if you buy it, you still get the warranty but the Bsnl guys won't just care.

when you call them about a modem failure, thats the first thing they ask "is it rented?"

you see, its easier for them to get a replacement for you(from their stock).they will just switch the modems and note down the s/n no.can't do that if you own it.
