    Default BSNL speed slow

From past 2-3 days the speed of my broadband connection is getting worse now its showing 32kbps download speed and 42kbps upload speed. Why is upload speed more than the download. Is the exchange limiting my speed or is it controlled by NIB bangalore. I reside in Aurangabad maharashtra.
Is the speed slow due to malware infection when upload speed is high download should also be good.Or a winsock network problem?
Can i get the NIB phone numbers of customer care so i can contact them regarding my problem and also my plan change which is nearing to a month to be implemented is said to be done at bangalore. How can i contact customer care at bangalore for my status. Here local authorities are a waste.

Then you should get around 200 Kilo Bytes/Second download speed.First, raise a complaint through phone.

I',m posting my SNR and LA values. If these SNR and Line Attenuation values can determine my speed.

    Downstream Upstream
    SNR Margin : 38.3 10.6 db
    Line Attenuation : 7.8 5.6 db
    Data Rate : 2048 861 kbps

What is the solution if the values are low because the line seems to be perfect no disturbance. When i called the SDE of BSNL he asked me these values,so today i'm gonna give it to him and hope some solution comes out as my speed is at a snails pace.
25-30kbps keeps alternating. It takes me 50min to download a 100mb file. and 5mins for a 11mb file.
I forgot to mention another problem previously my phone was dead many times while my connection was working perfect. I could not make outgoing calls nor incoming calls were coming. The lineman said its not possible even the officer at my exchange which is at a stone throw distance said its not possible either your instrument,or splitter may be the fault. These guys are so ignorant even the lineman does not understand the basics. He climbed up on the pole which my DP was fixed changed few wires and my phone was working fine and he beamed radiantly "wires were loose". If wires were loose how come my broadband was working fine.He had no answer !!. He said he will check at the exchange if my port was loose and punch it !! God knows what he will punch...no answer till now. You won't believe the exchange is at a stones throw. What **** speed i'm getting.
How should i bang words with these stupid ignorant exchange people, they are making me a liar.

    Refer this

It is perfectly possible that your phone is dead and broadband is working. Try " How to get maximum speed ... " thread from " broadband how to " section in home page.

It is possible that you get broadband even if the phone is dead.Your line stats are fine, with those figures you connection must be very stable even at high sync. speeds.

Then, ask the exchange people to change dslam port and check the connections at handover distribution frame(hdf) and main distribution frame(mdf).Situation might improve.

Phone uses low frequency so it works even if the noise is present.Modem is sensitive to noise and low snr margin. So, on a noisy line and with a low snr margin you face frequent disconnection of internet not the phone. But, it is possible to have dsl connection without telephone. Linesman tested my connection this way when I face frequent disconnection problem they completely stopped my telephone service for an hour and asked me to use the net after a stable connection for that hour they made the telephone service active then I got the phone and net.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Downstream Upstream
    SNR Margin : 37.9 9.2 db
    Line Attenuation : 7.8 5.6 db
    Data Rate : 2048 861 kbps

I cant understand these values do i have to divide them or something. You say my SNr is the 37.9db that is beyond 30db and above then i should have excellent speed.
And my LA is 7.8db which i cant understand as you say LA should be 20-25db i'm not close anywhere. So there is a problem with my line attenuation and not SNR. right? Do downstream and upstream have to be in perfect ratio? Here my upstream is very high. So confusing.
Folks i'm fed up what should i complain exactly to the SDE so he can get my problem solved without further waste of time.

You have to be sure that your computer does not have any problem.
If the problem from BSNL side then SDE can solve your problem.

    @mayflower
Test your internet speed here and report the results.
My Broadband Speed - Broadband Speed Tester

You may insert the link here.

    2. Mention your present plan and speed expected.
Your tariff plan change check in BSNL Portal
with a 14digit usage portal id and Pw to be obtained from exchange.
( different to userID and PW)
    3.
Internet connection can work even if Phone is dead.
for Phone complaints contact Phone complaints.
    4.
Check how you have used the ADSL splitter. Phone and extension phones ) to be connected only to the PHONE PORT of Splitter.

    i checked my speed today
    Download-275kbps(34.4 kbps)
    Upload-542kbps(67.8kbps)
Its taking me nearly half an hour to download a 51mb file even using hotfile and IDM. Previously the file used to download in mins.

    My modem reads
    SNR Margin (down)39.7 (Up)10.8 db
    Line Attenuation(down)7.8 (up)5.5 db
    Data Rate(down) 2048 (up)861 kbps

I cant understand this stats kindly explain !!. Is something wrong with my snr margn or Line attenuation. Should i change my cable its been for 3-4 years now.My line attenuation shows values 7.8 way below could this be the problem and what solution should i expect from the BSNL staff.Where is the port changing done exactly.

Your line stats are very fine.
No need to change the line.
your downstream and upstream rates are also according to your plan rate.
Port change is done in the exchange at DSLAM(DSL Access Multiplexer).
Do you have a firewall installed?
Is it showing activity even if you don not browser or download?

I was but now not using any firewall. Right now no antivirus and no firewall. Today i checked my download speed was 19.5kbps. It took me 40 mins to download a 50mb file. What is wrong with my connection. I formatted my system and loaded fresh copy of xp sp3. I have a Home-500plan (night 2-8).What is wrong with my connection is it something to do with tht DP pair switching or should i seriouly get my port checked.

Looking at your line stats it seems that your line is ok. Insist on bsnl service personnel to change port at DSLAM.

I went to the exchange and the technician changed my port.He connected my line and with my user password i logged in and checked before changing the port it was at snails pace but after port changing the speed stats jumped as i checked in mybroadband.co.uk.
But when i checked it at my residence the story was the same, slow speeds,no difference. He said he will send a lineman today and change the whole wire and pairs from exchange to my residence. What pair is he talking about ?
Could there be some problem with the cable underground, possibility of rain water entering the cables etc.

A pair of cable from the exchange to your residence. That includes underground and well as overhead cable.

Date Download Speed Upload Speed (7.00)am
    Today 02:35 158 kbps (19.8kB/s) 217 kbps (27.1kB/s)

    This is the speed reading.
Could there be a problem with the underground cable? Will it have to be replaced?
The engineer was suggesting that i opt out for a Wireless router. Would a wireless router (WiFi)solve my problem and will i get the desired speed as per plan. What are the drawbacks of a wireless router. The Exchange is very close to my residence.

If you checked the speed in the exchange and said that it is good and your line stats at your home also fine indicates that there is some problem with lan card drivers or other problem with your computer if you can borrow a laptop from a friend/neighbor try speedtest from other device to rule out the possibility of problem with your system as long as speed at exchange is according to your plan rate and with a good line if you are not getting the same speed from your system means some problem with your system.

Try as I said i.e. borrow a laptop from a friend/neighbor and check the speed in that laptop.
