Arrow [REVIEW] BSNL 2799 Home Combo 8mbps

    Hi..
I took this connection few days back and is semi-satisfied with it. Here are the PROS and CONS of it.

    PROS :

    1. 8mbps speed.
    2. Download speed can go upto 1MB/sec.
    3. Limit of 50GB, which is great for me.

    CONS :

    1. The connection is 8mbps, but the browsing speed seems less than even a 2mbps connection, which makes me crazy, as we have to do a lot of web applications and that sucks with such a connection.
    2. Got connection in 1 day, but it took 2 days to get it right for download speed , as the port speed needs to be edited manually on calling the JTE only.
    3. Havent got the real experience of 8mbps till now, since the JTE said, for 8mbps, you need a new pair connected for you in the exchange, which I have already applied for to the local exchange head , but not sure, when its going to be changed.

My institute is also using this plan. We have choosen this plan especially for it static IP feature. In torrent we are getting 800-900KBps but with IDM it is giving 250-300KBps. We have not done anything with JTE still now? Shoud we contact with JTE for increasing port speed?

Nice. High speed connection with 50 GB is good. Glad that you didn't had any bitter experiences.

    It has not static IP.
    Its dynamic IP.
    And yes download works great!

But we need high speed for audio and video conferencing and browsing, and thats why, we took this plan, but alas, the 500C 2mbps works better than this. LOL!

Use TuneUp utilities and set your PC for 8 Mbps connection. It may help.

Uninstall Tuneup and try installing again. It will ask you to specify the connection speed. It will hence make setting advisable for 8 Mbps.

CONS 1> You cannot see much variation in browsing speed between 512 kbps(.5 mbps) and 8 mbps connection if it is used on a single system. But, You can feel it when you download even on a single system. If you share 8 mbps connection over multiple machines.

CONS 2. If your speed is throttled at the port ask the exchange people until you get contracted speed.

CONS 3. Keep posting regarding follow up.

Static IP is provided upon specific request. So, Please, make a written request.

You plans download speed is 1024 Kilo Bytes per Second. In torrent you are getting 800~900 KB/S means you are getting around 80~90% of your plan speed your connection speed is as promised so, I feel you need not ask JTE. for IDM part check the settings of the download manager if connection speed was set at a lower speed.
