Default Where to go for help...?

How do I use my ADSL router to connect the 'net to my LAN?

I have the BSNL supplied router WA-3002-G1 that also has an ethernet port & a wi-fi transmitter, with the promise that I can ethernet-connect to a PC AND wi-fi-connect to other PCs that have a wi-fi-modem SIMULTANEOUSLY with a single account. (Now I guess the engineer did not know that I need another account....Is that true?).

(This BB is ON only after 9:30 am daily, ...may be they think that the BSNL-premise equipment needs to be turned on only after their arrival to their office?!...haven't checked when they turn it off...nor their week-end schedule...this BB opportunity is only 1 week-old in this village...) The pamphlet for the router they have left with me is for an entirely different router -UT300RTU !!

My laptop (XP-home edition) connects OK to BB via ethernet or via Wi-fi. I am yet to connect successfully with any of our many desktop PCs. With the laptop configured as the 'gateway' for BB to our other PCs on a LAN. They do see it as the gateway, but I am not able to browse thru them at all, for IE comes back saying "cannot find the server".

The problem is not one of single BB account only either, for we are not able to use the desktop PCs (all of them have XP-Pro on them)via PPPoE.

When I try to contact the engineer-in-charge, all we get is the latest movie tune from his phone.....

At may age I do not care if I access the 'net or not, but for the vibrant rural educational program we have here for poor students in a radius of 20 km & I feel ba about this avoidable waste of time. Pls advise if you can....

Hi,
First make it sure the Wifi can be used only for Desktop pc's which are Wifi enabled. If you have a Wifi enabled Desktop pc's then you just need to get connected and you can start browsing.

I guess you use only the WA-3002-G1 and via ethernet you connect to the Laptop via PPPoE and let all other Desktop connect through Wifi. Here i believe your Desktops are Wifi enabled. (But it is really very expensive to get you Desktop's Wifi enabled). Make it sure by default WA-3002-G1 will have the ip address 192.168.1.1. Change this settings in your notebook to 192.168.1.2 and for desktops 192.168.1.x (x any number after 2 and before 255, preferebly give them in series) subnet mask will be auto assigned and give default gateway and 192.168.1.1 also enable DNS and give 61.1.96.69 and 61.1.96.71.
