Thread: BSNL portal data usage miscalculations.

Dear all,

I've notice a peculiar problem this month (august). My usage portal till 31st showed about 2.5 GB which is the limit of my plan. I even got an sms that day saying that my usage was 2560 MB till 31st august 2PM or so.

But i just checked the billed usage today on 1st sep and what do you know? the usage was over 3GB!!!! Its clearly a mishandling of the usage portal by BSNL. I used to have some differences with portal and shaplus meter before, but after one or two days, the portal somehow used to show the right amount of usage. But this time, it showed the wrong usage throughout the month and only on 1st september, its saying august usage is over 3GB. I've even downloaded the excel files for the same and one on 31st shows 2.52GB and the other "august unbilled" on 1st sep is showing over 3GB.

And over this, i have an SMS sent from them on 31st.

How to take up this issue? Or not to take at all and just go on believing just the shaplus bandwidth meter? But hey, what if we are charged extra even if we are not using sometimes? Co-incidence : One night torrent was scheduled and at 2.04 AM, my pc got hanged, i mean no download happened that night and only at 7 AM i had to reboot when i woke up. Torrent also didn't download a single byte. But the usage portal showed about 400 MB when there was no program running on pc!!! Even the system time was stuck at 2.04 AM before i rebooted. This i just cannot understand!

P.S: I didn't use on 30th and 31st so any extra usage is out of question.

I have a similar experience. Once my usage on 1st of month was added after 21st. I ended up paying a big amount. I did complained without success. Try talking to the accounts officer. If you are able to convince him, you are saved.

Irrespective of what Shaplus shows, what is displayed in portal is final and that value will be used for billing. Time to sharpen your negotiation skills

Ya man, i download the excel files regularly mate (atleast once a week), and even they show usage of 2.5GB till 31st evening! I used depending on what the portal showed! Now they've added all things in between i think, as i said in earlier post that the download limit sometimes shows MUCH more that it has happened even if its in idle mode. And the case of 400MB without any single file downloaded by pc. It just can't be due to modem-bsnl server communication! What the servers are sending images and movies to say "ping" to modem or what?!

I don't know man, they should not mislead like this.

I'm not sure if it'll work. Man, these days when the private ISP's and telecoms are begging you to take postpaid connections ONLY to get a chance to rob you, BSNL doesn't do that. Thank God for that!

I was just mislead by the portal due to improper usage calculations. I should pay for incompetent billing service! But i think i'll end up just paying the extra amount no matter what i try.

Lets take this problem up to the authorities. Why don't everyone who has faced this problem drop an email to BSNL billing/accounts, giving them this evidence of miscalculating portal software.
