Default Connection drop every 5-15 minutes at any time since 7th September(wednesday)

    Location: kolkata
Connection : BSNL Home 1000 (basically home 500 but with 5GB limit instead of 2.5)
    modem - D-LINK GLB-802C
Line checked recently (1 month ago)

    No crackling sound/interference on phone

    SNR : 32/19 dB
    Atten: 9/5 dB
    ADSL2+
    - usually use opendns, googledns, or the default dns

anyway the problem is that any completely random time in the day(or night) there is a sudden drop in the connection - there is no traffic to any server at all; and all packets are dropped.

This again goes on for a random time - maybe 30 seconds, maybe 10 minutes.

At this time reconnecting gives a 691 or similar stupid error (Connecting to WAN Mini Port)

Here is what ping looks like during these line drops :

    Code:
    Reply from 63.241.193.18: bytes=32 time=317ms TTL=244

Similar packet loss to all websites; in fact it's not really a packet loss but a complete internet outage extremely frequently.

Additionally, latencies during the night are higher than normal and latencies during the day are just terrible all the time (very high ping times)

This problem started early in the morning on wednesday (8 Sept) and is there again early today (11 Sept).

I have run a full update+scan with malware bytes and spybot s&d but nothing was detected other than tracking cookies.

    Exclamation Connection Drop

Having the same problem here ... occurs during both day and night. (Plan BSNL FN500).

BSNL Broadband getting crappy these days probably due to poor server maintenance and very low pay plans they offer (125/- a month) .... Getting lot of users but maintenance not well enough to keep up with the pace

yeah the utorrent graph perfectly shows how awful bsnl is right now here :/

tried calling bsnl but their lines are congested as usual

im really not sure what's going on - i don't see any news of any repair work anywhere here or on any undersea cable : also other ISPs don't seem to be having this problem.

and yeah it's during the night, during the day - basically whenever. And of course there's absolutely awful latency during any peak time (6-8am, 11-2am,6-9pm etc).

Reliance for some reason won't provide internet in my area (south kolkata) so I'm going to try airtel.

Do notify us if you get any good offer from Airtel. BSNL service becoming worst service provided by any ISP. 2-3 years back it was fine, but now they are going down

Even I get the same kind of graphs while I use torrent, but it only during 6-8 am.. The download drops drastically even though there are 150 seeds and 30 leech.

The max I can download through torrent during 2-8 is 2.7GB down and 500MB Up with the best setting.. Where as my friend with the same torrent, same night, same settings could download 3.9GB and 600 Up.. The task manager showed the datatransfer as 6GB..

The problem probably starts at around 6 but it stays a lot longer than 8.
The extremely high latency is always there between 6-8 usually, but that's a different problem that's been there for the last 1 year or more.

Hi Friends! I am from Kolkata. I am also facing similar problems. Connection is very much unstable from the last 2-3 days. Around 10 days ago I started getting error 651. Complained to BSNL. They said DISLAMP was down. when asked for explanation, they said it meant optical fibre was broken in some place. It took almost 2 days to get fixed. Then 3 days ago LINK dropped. I checked the Telephone. It was Dead. Replaced the Handset. Checked once again. Line was back again. But unfortunately the LINK didn't return. Had to register a complain once again. Got resolved the next day. And from yesterday onwards CONNECTION is very unstable. It started by showing error 691. Logged in after 2 hours, it connected fine, but after that surfing the NET has been a very bad experience. Most of the time no website is opening. Then suddenly they open. Seems to be there is some problem with BSNL.

All the above users who are experiencing the same...are u all also from KOLKATA? If YES, then problem may be related to KOLKATA circle only.

well I also faced a problem regarding dead telephone 2 days back, but BB was working fine, & that problem was resolved within few hours after lodging the complain. I am not sure if this is related to the current BB problem or not.. lets see if they fix it by monday or not as I dont expect them to work on weekends

Default Usage shows reboot 42 times from 2AM-8AM!!

Well friends, posting it here because my post just fits perfectly in this thread.

This one's a first for me. I checked the usage yesterday, the usage calculation shows about 40 or more entries for one night!!!! Don't understand this, as im surfing now, there has been no disconnection now, (40 MB and going for about 1 hour ). But only yesterday night, torrent was running, good seed-peer ratio. But the modem disconnected for more than 40 times during the free time and once the computer got turned off by schedule, the modem still continued disconnecting (just few KB's handshake each time) till 11AM making it about 50-70 times of getting disconnected.

Anyone can enlighten me??????? Your replies will be much appreciated! And happy ganesh chaturthi to all

i got a call from BSNL they said something is wrong with their sequencer w/e that means.

i guess it will get fixed eventually (obviously).

in addition to the network instability there is still significantly higher than normal latency to australia and US (40-100 ms higher).

I use PPoE mode, the instability as of 12pm today is better.

    problem still not fully fixed - multiple disconnections, esp during the 6-10am perdiod;

high latency to USA (100-150ms higher than normal)
awful latency to australia (200-250ms higher than normal)

the high latency happens at any time during the day and is unrelated to disconnections.

For example, *right now* latency to US is 370-400ms, when for the last 4-5 months it was at a steady 280-300ms.

Did BSNL change something ? perhaps get a cheaper and worse peering partner for overseas connections ?

Anyhow spoke with airtel, maybe they will be better than garbage bsnl.

Ya "Rsen" is right. Today when I woke up at 6:30am I saw similar connection drop in uTorrent, as I was only seeding but not downloading anything I thought it was probably a tracker issue or 100% seeding limit has been reached but when I came from college this evening and browsing the web saw similar issues while loading web-pages ...

Conclusion: Problem not solved yet and BSNL Broadband is still a disappointment for us(Kolkata users who are facing the problem)
