    Default Extremely slow speed

    Hi,

I have BBG Combo 2799 plan. From past 10 days I'm suffering earth crawling speed. Tried different methods to bring the speed back to normal, but nothing worked. I've reset the modem, changed all the RJ-11 cables, reinstalled OS (though I know my OS was fine). Finally talked with SDE of local exchange. SDE said the problem is with Bangalore server and they can't do anything on it!

I've taken few screen shots of modem DSL status page and speed tests yesterday and today.

Speed test on various server (16.09.2010)

    Download from Microsoft.com (35-40KBps) - www.vatzcar.com/images/dl_microsoft.png

I'm getting comparatively better speed (around 250KBps) when downloading something from Indian server (like downloading php or something from Ubuntu Indian repo.), but anything outside of India dropping to 30-40KBps.

It would be very nice if anyone can tell me what can I do to get a reasonable solution.

    Thanks everyone.

BBG Combo 2799 plan. speed upto 8 Mbps
    1.
Check whether Annex M is enabled in dsl page ( in modem ).
    2.
Also try google dns 8.8.8.8 and opendns 208.67.220.220.

    3.
Did you shift from an older slower plan?
Now your max speed is expected to be upto 8 Mbps.
Bsnl ( local exchange )might not have changed the port .

    4.
Please check speed here and report result.
My Broadband Speed - Broadband Speed Tester.

    5.
    250KB/ps works out to 250 x 8 = 2000 Mbps only.

    6.
Check in BSNL Portal whether new Tariff plan has been provisioned . effective date ?
    7.
    feedback item wise.

    Thanks essbebe for quick reply.

    1. Annex M is not enabled

    2. Sorry, forgot to mention. I always use Google DNS. Now tried with mixing Google and OpenDNS. Not much difference.

    3. I have multiple plan change record. Initially I had taken UL1350+, then changed to ULF Combo 2999. With ULF Combo2999 I was having too much problem (i.e. I was billed for 2999 but having BW like 1350), so changed to 2799. I was getting 8mbps (around 5-7mbps actually), but suddenly it dropped like that.

    5. Yes, downloading from Indian server is giving such download speed (~250KBps), but anything outside not more than 40KBps.

    6. Plan has been provisioned on 04.08.2010 http://www.vatzcar.com/images/portal_shot.png

    1.
    Enable ANNEX M.
if BSNL port is not at fault try this:
    2.
    tcp optimizer from speedguide.net.
Adjust slider for 8Mbps speed and select optimal values.

I think it is wise to contact BSNL. They might have activated a speed cap.

I had the same problem you can follow my post here i tried every possible option from port changing to wire changing dp switching etc i was getting 25-30kbps download speed i use a home-500 plan which used to touch 1.3-2mbps.I did everything possible got fedup and sat quiet this was in the month of august. Suddenly i got back my speed from 1st of sep and everything is fine. Your sde is right the problem is from banglore server and yes as esebee said tryout google dns but when your bandwith is reduced you cannot do much about it but wait.Mark my words "NOBODY AT BSNL CAN HELP YOU ALL PUT THE BLAME GAME" everything is done from bangalore.Patience my friend as i did.

Sorry to bump this post, but couldn't stop myself from thinking you guys, essbebe, meetdilip, bsnlking and mayflower.

I was out-of-station for a while, and when I came back today, I found my connection all stable up and running. Got peak download speed of 1.01MBps with regular download speed of 820-870KBps. Yes mayflower, the patience did the trick, and in this case that didn't hurt me ;-)

Still I've enabled Annex M. I couldn't get the tcp optimizer as that's for Windows and I'm on Linux. I didn't complained at BSNL, but I'm sure the link will come handy for me in future. Thank you essbebe for the link.

And thank all of you guys. This thread is solved.

Thanks essbebe for reply and rep. Here's the speed test result

Though the speed test seems little slow, as anytime I get download speed more than 500KBps (for most of my sources). And on a closed group storage space I get download speed more than 800KBps. I don't bother about RS,MU or any other public storage space also don't bother about torrent too, so this is the best BSNL plan for me to get the fastest possible speed (being economic) :-)
