    Default UTStarcom WA3002G4 Router problem

    Hi
I have UT Starcom WA3002G4 Type II Router. I have a BSNL BB connection. The BB is working fine in Bridge+Dialer mode but shows PPP Down in Router mode. What are the various possibilities of errors? I gave the IPs 192.168.1.30, Subnet 255.255.255.0 Default gate way 192.168.1.1 and the Pri DNS as 218.248.255.212 & Sec DNS as 218.248.241.2 in my TCP/IP settings, which I got from BSNL Tech earlier. Is it possible that there is some problem with the Port ( at the BSNL Server)which gets selected when the Router tries to get Connected? In that case the same problem should occur with Bridge+Dialer mode, which infact is working fine. I need to use a PC and a Laptop simultaneously.
Tried to use other (friend's) Router on my line that also is showing exactly same behaviour, i.e. it works fine in Bridge+Dialer mode but not as Router. My OS is Win XP

Please any Help or suggestion is welcome
    Thanx

I need to use a PC and a Laptop simultaneously.
    1.
Check settings for "Always On" PPP/PPPoE mode
    from link below.
    UTSTAR WA3002-G4 quick reference
    2
    .Enable DHCP in modem.
    Range say 192.168.1.30 to 192.168.1.40
    3.
.In TCP/IP properties select ( desktop /laptop wlan lan modes)
    "Obtain IP address automatically "
    4.
Change DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 208.67.220.220
in both modem and TCP/IP properties page.
    5.
    Mention browser you use.

    Hi essbebe
Thanx for the reply I did all that you wrote but no change still down, this reply I am giving with the same modem in "Bridge+Dialer" mode.
    1) Did "Obtain IP address ...".
    2) After changing the DNS both in modem & TCP/IP to the values 8.8.8.8 & 208.67.220.220 the modem Diagnostics is showing "Fail" in pinging the Pri DNS and it is not getting connected either.
    3) I generally use FF but have also checked all the settings etc with IE8 but no change.
    4) The Modem/Router is working perfectly in Bridge+Dialer mode, I need it to function like a Router in PPPoE mode. I have the correct DNS addresses of the BSNL server of Kalyan Maharashtra thats where I am, they are 218.248.255.212 & 218.248.255.139. I had set up these numbers also and checked but no-joy
    5) I have a Brand new Type II Modem/Router of D-Link 2640 purchased 2 days back it also is showing same behavior.
Any other advise or suggestions please.
    Thanks

Hi Thanx again for continuously supporting.
    1) Did all the steps mentioned, but no change.

    2) The Router was functioning alright till a week back when it suddenly slowed down, thats when I re-entered all the settings and the problem continues. I use FF mainly but I have tried all the settings with IE also after Hard reset, but no joy, now I know all the steps by-heart, and may be I don't know something and missing something, thats why I requested a post here. Infact I did a Firmware upgrade also, Fortunately even after that the behavior remained same, I mean the Router took the upgrade

    3) The new Dlink Router is with a CD which has a Wizard, but that would also do the same steps which we do manually, I checked that aspect also. Only difference with D-Link being its interface is slightly in more details. This also shows the same behavior.

    4) Approached BSNL Tech staff, they came and checked the line SNR which was satisfactory in- 5.5dBm and out is 22dBm, the upper limits being 32dBm for both.

    5) Got the Port Reset on the BSNL server today, still the same

    6) I configured both my PC and my laptop-thru-wireless with the Router in Bridge+Dialer mode, so I am able to access Internet on only one of them at a time, but not on both simultaneously because of the PPPoE problem

    7) May be there is something which can solve this Mysterious and Strange issue. I use Win XP with SP2(Licenced)
    Thanks

May be there is something which can solve this Mysterious and Strange issue. I use Win XP with SP2(Licenced)
Since you cannot have PPP/PPPoE mode in
Wa3002-G4 with updated firmware , and in
    Dlink modem ( mention type model/number )

    012
    try SP3 update
Support stopped for Xp from July 2010.
    no more updates.

    013:
line SNR which was satisfactory in- 5.5dBm and out is 22dBm, the upper limits being 32dBm for both.
    Not satisfactory !

    http://img502.imageshack.us/ifs/246/.../2/snrattm.jpg

    014:
Try again settings for PPP/PPPoE mode and post screenshot(jpg) as annexure or insert ( Icon Yellow ) WAN page ( blank your Id Password)
and adsl page. and Device info page.

    015.
Check in ( Management )Diagnostics page Failed status.
    compare with dialer mode.

    016
Mention from where you got Firmware upgrade ?
Motive bsnl website ? or from other sources ?

    Hi
Tried the settings many times but no joy, I am unable to digest this Mystery(I am a hardcore IT/Networking hand )

I downloaded the Firmware from a Link given here in this Forums previous links, thats fine. I have XP-SP3 on both PC and Laptop. Even with the SNR values stated Bridge mode works fantastic.

Pass/Fail State of Dialer & PPP would be different and are different. The Server Authentication always comes as "Pass" in PPP mode even when PPP mode is not working & the Connection with Server Always comes as "Fail".Ping Test with Default G/W comes as Pass.

I am not posting the screenshots because I am giving this reply from my friend's PC
    Thanx & Regds

    Hi
I have DHCP Enabled for the range 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254, I always use FF Browser but have tested all the settings with IE8 also.
Took both of my Modems to my Friends place, and both are working perfectly fine there as Router on BSNL BB Connection. What else could be there to change the settings.
    Regds & Thanx

Today I got the Line changed of my BSNL Tele to reduce the SNR Values, but still no change.
The OS of my friend's System is Win XP-SP3. This is the strangest thing I have ever faced.

    .
Misunderstood. There is no REPAIR option in any Router !
When you click the LAN icon in Task Bar, context menu will give options like status repair etc.
When you are on Dialer mode check it.
Change to PPP/PPPoE mode and recheck/compare.

    IP Address : 192.168.1.31
same as in Dialer Mode ?
    DNS:
218.248.255.212 IN INDIA DELHI NEW DELHI NATIONAL INTERNET BACKBONE
218.248.255.139 IN INDIA DELHI NEW DELHI NATIONAL INTERNET BACKBONE

    Hi
Did that too I mean the Repair/Change settings options in the context Menu. Yes the DNS is same as that id Dialer Mode.
I am planning to request BSNL to change the entire line of drop wire even if I have to pay for that, it is around only some 10-15 metres near the DP/JP

When you are connected in "Dialer" mode where is the need to change the wire/s from Telephone junction ?
Modem settings are not suspect. or the bsnl line.
Because it works perfectly in your friend's location.
A new Dsl2640 T also gives same problem.
Works on "Dialer Mode but not on PPP/PPPoE mode.

    2. Presume Ip address is also 192.168.1.31 Confirm.
This in the information I wanted.
BSNL DNS data for ref only.

    3.
Did that too I mean the Repair/Change settings options in the context Menu
did you get traffic bytes sent and received or received was showing blank ?

    4. WILD TRY !
Change DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and
    or open dns
    208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222

    Hi!
My problem with this router is of a different nature- I hope someone can come to my help.

Following BSNL's consistent prompts to upgrade firmware, I decided to go ahead and do it and downloaded the requisite firmware and directions from
    motive.bsnl.co.in

It started off well and I was simply asked to follow instructions which looked easy enough. Some time later the process stalled and I closed the window and thereby aborted the firmware upgrade process. After that, the DSL light does not glow at all, although the router powers on. Reset is of no consequence because the router simply does not seem to have a firmware running.

I know I have not wrecked the hardware and I somehow need to restore the firmware on the router. My efforts at finding a solution on the Net have not produced much results.

Please help me in restoring the firmware on my UTStarcom WA3002G4.

    Best Regards
    Suresh

If you cannot access modem/router menu pages, try for exchange with BSNL or try again.

Some time later the process stalled and I closed the window and thereby aborted the firmware upgrade process
When firmware is upgraded, the process should not be terminated abruptly.

    Are you familiar with telnet?
