    hi all,
i have Broadband connection of bsnl and modem Huawei Atx MT880, since last two days my ADSL link is blinking but not stable for a second. i called bsnl guys they came and said your modem is faulty, i took my modem to bsnl exchange and got it checked there, it was working fine.
But bsnl guys saying that your modem is older so cannot take signal strengths and should purchase a new one.

They always lay the blame if they cant rectify the problem on your modem.Okay so ask them to get their modem from the exchange and check for fault. Insist to get their modem for a check.Contact your Broadband SDE for modem support. If in warranty get it replaced and mention the reason for replacement. Chinese modems after say 2yrs give up. If you want to purchase go for the new BSNL modems they are supplying now for just 1100.
Iball has a good range ADSL2+ for 1300 but its best to go for BSNL u get it replaced fast in warranty period and they are configured to the network.

my modem is four years old, they are saying that my modem signal is week and thats why cant catch the signals, they brought their modem with them and was working fine. on the other hand my modem also worked fine in their exchange. i asked them to change my line from junction box.
Does it has anything with SNR values, if so how can i check, as i tried but could not locate how to get those values.
Also new modem type 2 they are asking 1800/- for it.

    1. Check the splitter. Make sure that all connections comes after the splitter. Bypass splitter, connect directly to the modem and check. Compare your set up with this diagram.

    2. Try to get a friend's modem and check at your place. Also check your's at his place. If modem is faulty, there is nothing you could do. I am also using a wifi modem (AR800V v3.0). It come for Rs. 80 per month rent. Your modem will be replaced if it becomes faulty before the we complete the payment.

    3. What kind of signals are they talking ? Do you use only wifi ? How is the performance while connecting through ethernet ?

    4. Post your SNR and attenuation values.

    Procedure :

    1. Type 192.168.1.1 in your browser.

    2. ID and password as admin.

    3. Post the screen shot of landing page.

ITs a wired modem and not a wifi modem to catch signals. Dont waste time in SNR and LA values,if at all u want to know take your modem to the exchange and ask them to connect it to your port and line and check speed there and tell them to check your snr and line attenuation. Your modem really bad not catching signals !! well u will get to know.

as i told in my previous post that my modem is working fine in exchange but not in my home as the dsl link is blinking but not getting stable so cannot access net.
Just now bsnl guys came and told me that they have changed line but still my modem link is blinking but not getting stable. Than i talked to the officer of bsnl and he said that my modem signal strength got week and nothing can be done from their side except changing the modem to a new one which has beeter signal strength.
So i requested them to bring one modem from their side to double check the line, they agreed upon and said that if the modem works than you have only option left to change your modem.
PS: i check the splitter too and put the phone line directly too but of no use.

If it is really a faulty modem, there is nothing much we can do. The above steps were to confirm that there is no problem in other devices. Strange that the same modem works at exchange and not at home. Try changing the power adapter and check as a last option.

yeah very strange that it is working in one place and not in other, power adaptor is fine as it is working in the exchange so dont think it is power related. it is the signals which the modem is failed to recieved in good portion.Just waiting for the bsnl guys to bring their modem to check upon, if their modem works than definitely my modem is the culprit.

    (1) If u hear noise in earpiece along with dialtone, lodge a noisy line complaint.
If this does not solve your problem, then check for splitter and modem.

    (2) also,
Sub standard electronic items have a habit of not dying completely but they take longer breathes for quite a time before totally going dead.
This period confuses the user like anything. : P: D

just now bsnl guys brought their testing modem (Type II) and its working fine.also the SNR is 25 and line attenuation is 42 for downlink and 24 for uplink. which is good i guess.
Which concludes that my modem is having week signal and cannot recieve enough strength for the broadband and guess i have to buy a new one.
