    Default Daytime Latency/Speed Fluctuations

Latency/speed to international servers varying greatly for the last week or so.

Latencies to west coast US varying between 320 to 560 ms.

Routing also seems to be changing a lot - via chennai/singapore, then via west coast then via london, then via new york.

Peering with AT&T in the US seems to be always pretty awful.

Before anyone suggests ; this isn't a dns issues, nor a line issue [ changing dns servers is irrelevant for routing problems, and my snr/atten/local line quality are all fine ].

In the past the inflated latencies only seemed to happen during the 7:30am - 8am period; recently they keep happening at any time during the day.

    Dallas - central US

San Francisco - west coast US

    East coast - NJ

    London

    Australia

No one cares because most of the users only want download speed.

Well for me, when latency is unusually high torrent speeds/browsing speeds (especially foreign sites) become horribly slow.

But I agree no one seems to care. Or there's just no point in complaining

I've thought you decided to dump BSNL but still you haven't left it? from your post i can see that you care so much about latency just as i do, and also i told you earlier that if you want best latency in India then opt for Reliance.

Reliance "doesn't have a port" in my area so I can't get it for a few months at the very least. Funny, coz their main call center says reliance is available in south kolkata; and so does their website. o well.

Right now I'm still using BSNL Home 1000, and Airtel 599. Both are mostly rubbish; with bsnl being slightly better.

Instead of wasting money on 2 connections simultaneously you can try Wimax from Reliance a fellow member of our forum from kolkata last month opted for Wimax and he is getting mind blowing speeds with decent ping times.

nah wireless doesn't work well with gaming.
I'll switch to reliance wired; once they are able to give a connection in my area.
    But until then I'm stuck.

When things are ok on bsnl's end I get 290-320 ms.

    With airtel I'm getting 350-400ms.

Just leave that pathetic BSNL,and switch to Reliance wired or wimax i can guarantee you that your pings and speeds will remain static 24X7!!

    Default For Your Information

If you are playing online games then no matter to which server you connect, if you get ping <50 max <80 then you can play without lag. anything above 80 is a pure lag in game.

I play counter strike on steam and servers are located in India. Hence i get fantastic ping. For any Indian server i join , i get ping around 25-60ms which is good for online game play.

No matter which ISP you use from India, if server is located in US , UK , you are bound to get ping >80 or 100 ms which will introduce a lag for sure.

General thumb of rule is : Join server located in your country. Eg. Counter Strike game has N-number of servers hosted in India hence people enjoy playing it online.
