Hello i have purchased BSNL Wimax Soma 400. An ethernet cable from device to my computer is connected. I need to access net on muliple computers, i have a switch DLink but it does not work.

They say a router is needed, has anyone been able to get this work?

Here you insert the USB card to the router and you get wifi in other laptops etc.

The router its WAN port is it RJ-11 or RJ-45 and any idea its price in India?

BTW i called a BSNL tech and he tells any wifi dsl router will do, a cable from the soma network device (ethernet ) has to fit in a wan port of the router (so its RJ-45) and all computers can connect via LAN, Laptop can connect to it using wifi.

Any other routers which can do the job as in name brand, dont want an expensive one to buy

ALWAYS RJ45 for a wifi router.
You can try Netgear wgr614V9 wifi router with 4 lan ports.

Usually the Rj45 carries some D.C in addition to signals
PoE ( power over ethernet ). for a Wimax setup.

I am not sure , where the modem is installed.
At the Mast head ( antenna outside ) , or in your room.

If in your room ,a coaxial cable may be connected to the modem
and the lan wire rj45 can connect to computer (or WIFI router WAN port ).

If you can access the modem menu pages

Also confirm whether you use a dialer ,
( userId and PW entered in a window in computer )
or the internet connects automatically.

No antenna device is kept in the room, cant access any menu when u enter the gateway ip it tells Soma Network Menu disabled, no dialler

You can try and test
with a borrowed WIFI router such as
Netgear wgr614v9 and connect the Rj45 cable to its WAN
(Internet port ).
I am not sure this will work.

I just connected the RJ45 cable from the wimax modem to one LAN port of my Beetel 450TC1 ADSL2+ Wifi router. Voila... it worked as normal Wifi router and I am able access the wimax modem diagnosis page from my Laptop..

1. Connect the ethernet (RJ-45) cable (white colour) coming out from Power over Ethernet (POE) to WAN port of the router. At back side of the router your can see 5 RJ-45 ports, out of this 1 for WAN and rest 4 for LAN.
2. Connect your network card of desktop pc or laptop to any of the LAN port of the router.
3. Switch off the power to POE
4. Go to >>>Control panel >> Network >> Local Area Connection >>> Properties >>> Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) >>> Properties >>> Select obtain IP address automatically.
5. Go to Command prompt and type ipconfig/all you should get the details as below

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

6.Open your browser (IE / Firefox) and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press ENTER
7. It will prompt for username and password type “admin” for both username and password. Now you are under settings page of your router.
8. Under Setup >>> Basic Setup ,Change the Local IP Address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2 (This is very important, because the Subscriber Station (receiver or SS) will have ip address as 192.168.1.1 )
9.Under Setup >>> MAC Address Clone >>> Enable >>> Click “Clone your PC’s MAC” . Then Save settings.
10.Switch on the power to POE and allow atleast 2 mins to complete hand shaking.
11. Under Status >>> Router >>> you can see as below

Login Type: Automatic Configuration - DHCP
IP Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Subnet Mask: 255.255.xxx.0
Default Gateway: xxx.xxx.xxx.1
DNS 1: 220.225.236.84(* change required)
DNS 2: 220.225.236.85(*change required)
DNS 3: 202.138.96.47(*change required)
MTU: 1500 ( *1492 can be tried )
