    Angry BSNL Charging for proportional usage for Home 500C plan

    Hi,

    I am a customer for BSNL for over 4 years. I am using Home 500C plan. They said that 1.5GB/Month and 2am-8am free usage at 2Mbps. I never exceed 1.5Gb/Month and I always got Rs. 536-580 per month. But for the August 2010 my PC SMPS was damaged so I didn't use internet for almost 20 days once i replaced my SMPS and used 10 days of internet and download 1.55Gb. and used 179 calls out of 180 free calls.

    To my surprise I got bill of Rs. 1419/- I directly inquired with the accounts officer in person, he told that you used the internet only for 10 days so free usage is only 512MB (51.2Mb/day if 1.5Gb/Month) and also only 60 free calls (6calls per day [if 180calls/month]) so every thing was correct and he asked me to pay the amount without delay!

    I told him that I may not use the internet for 3-5 days in every month but those months you didn't charge like these. He just went out of the room without reply!

    Please explain these....(paranormal phenomenon)!

    if they charged 500 for broadband then u must get 1.5 gb irrespective of how many days you used the bb on that month.check your bill carefully and your portal.And in 500c plan free calls is 175 not 180.If everything is right from ur side then meet him again and convience him.

    @cackharot.
    presume you have Ip 59.xx.xx.xx and abcd @ dataone.in
    Check your usage in portal and check what is the chargeable units
    From that you deduct 1.5 GB.
    If there is overlapping usage say from 1100 PM to 08AM meter must have recorded all as chargeable.
    ( usually 02-08AM usage should show Zero bytes)
    You can claim proportionate reduction in usage on average hourly basis. ( for NU period)

    I am assuming your bill is around 1,421 and not 14,219 because an excess usage of 1 GB cannot get a bill more than 1500. Did you call them to inform that your SMPS is not working? If so, they will not charge the rent for those days and charge you only for those days for which your computer was working. For example if your computer worked only for 10 days out of 30 and you informed BSNL about it, they will adjust the bill accordingly by charging 10/30 or 1/3 of the rent with 1/3 of the usage limit. You cannot change it. If they charged you the entire month's rent in full, you can either get a reduction in rent or the usage. So check the split-up of the bill carefully and act accordingly

    i didn't phone BSNL about my problem. Sorry its typing mistake actual bill was Rs. 1,419/- only. They actually charged like this

    Plan charge: Rs. 236/- (they put separate charge for 01/08/2010 to 20/08/2010 for telephone that is around Rs.117/- and
    21/08/2010 to 30/08/2010 for BB around Rs. 119/-)
    Extra phone calls charged Rs. 98/-
    Extra BB usage charge of Rs. 705/-
    One time charge of Rs. 250/-
    plus service tax of Rs. 130/-

    totally Rs. 1,419/-

    also i cant able to check the usage details at [data.bsnl.in/wps/portal]
    i registered long ago in selfcare.sdc.bsnl.co.in
    but unfortunately i forget both userid and password
    i called bsnl customer care service they told to give a letter to bsnl office reg this.

    this was never happened to me....if some one knows your password then he can also use your pass to surf Internet...so change your password....and make your STD lock.....because if a line man of bsnl knows that ur std is not locked then he can use ur wire frm any where and he can talk.....actually they have charge u for extra BB usage but this can also be happen and must change ur password. and see what happen in the next month...i can easily check my usage at data.bsnl.in but some users have reported problem in opening the website, I dont know why..but it works perfect for me on chrome then opera.

    It is really strange why they didn't charge you for the full month. Ask them to charge full rent and give a bill accordingly. Unless you give a written request, they are not supposed to charge you only for 10 days. Have you applied for a plan change ? Make a call to BSNL, record it and file a consumer court petition.

    Before that, try talking to the Nodal officer or Appellate authority. ID and phone no. behind your telephone bill.

    we got bill mentioning list of STD calls that we made so it was correct no one was misusing our telephone line. Also if my BB user id and password are hacked they must have used (huge download). But i know that i used the internet for 10 days and download a movie of 705MB and used facebook, utube, gmail, etc...So the chargeable unit is correct (1.55Gb). Also I'm a Ubuntu user so no Virus/malware problem.

    BSNL will never charge you for a partial month unless you give them a written request and stating why. How can they know that you did not use your internet because your SMPS was damaged and hence PC not usable?

    I have had periods of non-usage too - sometimes over two weeks. BSNL always charged me for the full month.
