    Default Problem connecting to VPN client thru wireless

    Hi,
    I have a problem connecting to Cisco VPN client thru wireless. I am able to browse inetrenet fine thru wireless and my VPN works fine thru wired connection. Looks like I have some problem with the settings.
    Can someone help?
    Is there something on the router WA1003A that I need to disable?
    It was working fine earlier, not sure what changed and doesn't work anymore.

    Thanks for your help

    I am trying to connect to Cisco VPN through BSNL broadband connection but I am getting this error:

    "Reason 412: The remote peer is not responding"

    Could you share on how you could able to make it work using BSNL broadband connection. The modem I am using is BSNL VMC AN1020-21] New Type-II Modem. I could able to get on Internet but the VPN is failing.

    Thanks

    Have you tried Portforwarding ?
    your unit is similar to Siemens c2110( less wifi)
    Check in Portforward.com

    2.
    * A firewall is blocking the VPN traffic;
    * The user is behind a firewall blocking the ports ESP and/or the UDP 4500/500;
    * There is poor Internet connection;
    * The port 1000 is blocked. This is the default setting for VPN. If the client attempts to connect to TCP, a blocked port will not grant it with access;
    * The responses from the server/concentrator aren’t reaching the client;
    * Packets of information are not able to reach the VPN concentrator/server. As a result, the client thinks the server is no longer accessible;
    * There is a general loss of package;
    * Hardware malfunctions either in a network device or a network interface card;
    * ACL (Access Control List) is being blocked, thus, requiring the following ports or protocols:

    - For PPTP, the TCP port 1723 IP and the protocol 47 are required.

    - For IPSec, the IP protocol 51 and the UDP port 500 are required.

    * The VPN client is using a NAT (Network Address Translation), making it incompatible with the server. A client with a NAT device should be used with a NAT-T enabled server. The user will not be able to receive or send any traffic at all. VPN can attempt connection but the software will ultimately close it.

    Solutions You Can Use

    Here are some solutions that you can use to solve Error 412.

    * If you are using a wireless connection, try using a cable;
    * Turn off your firewall then test the connection to determine whether the problem is still occurring. If the problem is resolved, you can turn your firewall back on and add exceptions for the ports 4500 and 500, as well as for the ESP protocol;
    * Switch on NAT-T/TCP in your profile and remember to unblock the port 10000; or
    * Revise your profile with your editor and change ForceKeepAlive=0 to 1

    @essbebe
    Thanks for the solutions posted. I looked in google and got the same response in majority links (point 3). Only issue with these solutions is that on my modem default website, under security section, there is no option for me to disable firewall.

    I have not done port forwarding. I will have to learn on how to do that. Thanks for the link. Interestingly under default website for the modem, when I clicked on "Add" button for port forwarding, all the fields have been disabled. I will have to look up on that.

    Configure BB VPN in pppoe mode and
    Internet in bridge mode.

    Pppoe mode : 1. Connect ADSL modem to your PC with straight Ethernet Cable (RJ45)
    2. Configure TCP/IP of your LAN
    3. Open Internet Explorer and type : http://192.168.1.1 and give enter
    4. Type user as admin and password as admin
    5. In the opened window click advanced setup
    6. You will find different VPI/VCI in Wide Area Network setup window
    7. Click edit button against VPI/VCI 0/32 row
    8. you will get ATM PVC configuration, make VPI to “0” and VCI to “32” go to next
    9. Select connection type as PPPOE and click next
    10. Type VPN username, Password and Service name (VPN)
    click next.
    11. No configuration in next window, simply click next
    12. Click save
    13. In the Wide area network setup window click Save/Reboot

    Bridge mode : 1. In the Home page click advanced setup
    2. Click edit button against VPI/VCI 0/35 row
    3. You will get ATM PVC configuration, make VPI to “0” and
    VCI to “35” click next
    4. Select connection type as BRIDGE and click next.
    5 No configuration in next window, simply click next
    6. Click save.
    7. In the Wide are network setup window, click Save/Reboot.

    Now the modem is ready for Bridge mode connection. Make a new Dial-up connection in the Network connection window of your PC and dial to access Broadband.

    Thanks again. I tried to set up both PPPoE and Bridge connection. After I added both connections, I could now able to see Port Forwarding settings enabled and have an option to select "VPN" and "PPTP VPN" for pre-defined and "PPPoE" for WAN interface.

    I am not sure what IP address to use for "Forward to Internal Host IP Address:"

    Is that the VPN security gateway address?

    To clarify on why I have to do most of the settings on the router, I cannot access any of the settings on my work machine like network connections or the firewall, they have been disabled by the IT department, who assure me that the settings are all fine; I can only access my own router through my own laptop, which I have full access to.

    I don't know much about VPN, but I understand it relies on having the right ports (UDP 400/500 and TCP 10000?) open, and having a connection that doesn't drop data.
