    Angry Chennai BSNL Broadband sucks

After hearing good about the BSNL Broadband in Mumbai, I chose to go with it after moving to chennai. The subscription was fast and easy but to my horror, i was asked to pay additional security charges without any notification at the time of subscription.

Further I was overcharged by 2000Rs in my first bill when the subscription agent charged me for modem purchase instead of rental.

Then the following month the connection conked off for 12 days. and again presently my internet isn't working for last 2 weeks.

First, the grievance system of BSNL is very pretentious and poor. It advertises 50 phone numbers on its website but the nodal officers never pick up the phone.

Moreover, they are beaurocrats who donot empathise or care about the paying customer's frustration. ts a shame with such powerful infrastructure and capabilities of being at par with the private players, the BSNL telecom dept in Chennai sucks at its job.

The department, I am told, is doing good job in other Teir 2 and even Teir 3 &4 cities in India.

I sincerely hope that this thread reaches the higher authorities who decide, at least this time, to take some action.

I doubt that any BSNL authorities, high or low, attend to this forum --- but who knows, you might be lucky!

As to how good they are, I think it depends where you live, and on how ancient the cabling infrastructure is there. They served us well enough in a central area of Chennai, but, after moving well out, we had regular problems, and changed to Airtel the minute we saw them cabling our street.

Sorting out problems with BSNL is often better done by a personal visit. Face to face, they can be quite human and sympathetic. On an account overcharge complaint, the senior who we met showed us that they owed us more than we were asking for --- and gave us tea!

The guys on the street, though, that I have met, are most interested in holding their hands out at the end of the job, which makes you wonder if they might not be making it impermanent so that they can come back again!

My broadband was paid by one year subscription in advance. When we moved house, they had to start a new one, but credit the remainder of the old one. They got that sum wrong. I still don't understand how, but my wife spotted it, and the lady accountant at BSNL not only agreed, but said they owed us more than my wife said.

Until we moved here, the service was good. Now, although we no longer have broadband, even the landline (we wanted to keep the number) goes down regularly.

If my sole experience of them had been in this house, I'd have said, yes, their cables are old and rotten (they told us that some of them were laid under the canal!) and their service sucks indeed.

I've heard bad stuff about airtel too (what company is perfect?) but at least they send out guys who know more than just how to twist wires together when something goes wrong, and they don't stand there with their hands open at the end of the call.
