    Default BSNL speed test variation

    Hello guys,

I am having an issue which I thought of discussing here and get to know whether others are also facing the same problem.

I have a BSNL broadband connection and the plan I have is Home 900 plan with 4Mbps upto 8GB and rest at 256kbps. I recently upgraded to this plan from UL750 plan.

Once after this plan came into operation, I tried to test the speed. When I test the speed though the Broadband speed tester at www(dot)dataone(dot)in I see the speed as 3.43 Mbps. I can see similar results at Airtel website also when I tested the speed.

Now comes the strange part. When I test the speed through www(dot)speedtest(dot)net, I get the speed as 1.1 to 1.2Mbps. This speed is apparent with the download speeds and the connection speeds while browsing. When I spoke to the customer care executive of BSNL, I got a reply saying that the speed is indeed less in Bangalore area due to some server issue. But when I ask a specific question of why the speed is fine till BSNL servers and reduce later, there was no answer from their side. When I had UL 750 plan, the speed (512kbps) I used to get was in sync with both www(dot)dataone(dot)in and www(dot)speedtest(dot)net results.

Does anyone else also face the same issue as me? If people with this plan anywhere in the country can try this and let me know the results, I will be grateful to you all. Also, people from bangalore having this plan can try and see whether it is a generic issue with Bangalore connections or it is a problem for me alone, it will be helpful. Please do try these tests and give me some inputs.

    Thanks.

Download any file from Microsoft and report the speed here. This will give you a clear picture of your speed.

How do I log the speed while downloading the file from microsoft? Is it the one reported by Firefox when downloading a file? Can you please tell me a specific file and the way to check the speed so that the results you expect can be accurate?
    Thanks.

you can download a reasonable size file like dot net frame work 4.0 which is above 48 MB from filehippo.com(cnet or softpedia) with a good download manager like free download manager to check whether you are getting the promised speed or not? and this method can be considered as more indicative one for the real speed you are getting rather than through speedtest.net certain times speedtest servers are busy me on 2 mbps plan at times I get .48 mbps as my download speed but when I download a file I get around 198 to 210 Kilo Bytes per seconds.

    Hope this helps you.

    Click this link

Download details: Windows Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP

Before downloading the above mentioned file, install Free Download Manager (FDM) [free] or Internet Download Manager (IDM) [paid] on your PC. Now click the above link and report the download speed. Make sure that you report the speed in KBps and not Kbps.

your maximum download speed for your 4 mega bits per second(mbps) plan is 512 Kilo Bytes per Second(KBPS). You can expect above 80 percent of this in real life situation.

    Guys,

I tried downloading a file and it reported as 48-49KBps. That is less than 400kbps. This is very less and I reported this to BSNL customer care center. They asked me to check the speed at www(dot)2wire(dot)com. Even there the speed is around 367kbps. But on www(dot)dataone(dot)in the speed it shows is 3.4Mbps. Once the request crosses the gateway, the speed is very less and not at all acceptable. The sad part is that no one in Telephone Exchange or the customer care is able to understand this problem.

Talk to some technical person and try to explain your problem. Senior Divisional Engineer (SDE) will be fine. If you are getting only 48 KBps, then it is too low.

    Try this guide

Sure. I have already lodged 11 compliants regarding this. But everytime they say that it is fine and close the complaint. When I try explaining the issue to the exchange or the customer care officials, they just cant understand the problem. I really am running out of hope. How bad can the service of BSNL turn out to be?

Home 900 plan with 4Mbps upto 8GB and rest at 256kbps.
    Try tcp/ip optimizer from speedguide.net

It is Sub Didivisional Engineer and NOT Senior divisional ...... . The next higher rank is Divisional Engineer.

Default BSNL BB Home Combo ULF 900 has issues- Confirmed by a Source from BSNL

    Guys,

I was able to get to the bottom of this problem. Apparently ULF 900 Combo plan (4Mbps upto 8GB and 256 for the rest) is facing some issues within BSNL servers. Lot of people with this 900 combo plan are facing the same problem of very low speed and this has been confirmed from one of SDE's of BSNL. The problem is accepted by BSNL and they have told that it is being looked at currently. He (SDE) has suggested me to migrate to a different plan (ULF 1350). This plan is tested and he is sure that this will give the desired speed of 2Mbps till 20GB and 512kbps for the rest. I will migrate to this plan for the time being. Once this problem is resolved, he has told me that I can revert to the 900 combo plan.

    Regards,
    Pavan D

Thanks meetdilip. I want to convey this issue with this broadband plan to more people so that they dont face the same issues as I did. What do you all suggest???? Once the problem is resolved, we can convey that also.
