Thread: Incredibly low speeds over the last 2 weeks,chennai

Has anyone been experiencing this in chennai?

I've been with bsnl for the last 5 years or so, and it's never been this bad, I generally have no problems with the speed. But My downloads are going at a blistering 2 kbps. Needless to say it's impossible to watch or stream any videos. I've given up trying to play online on the ps3 or the pc, cause the lag is so bad.

I did a speed test on the official bsnl test: and I got ..a surprising 1.6 mbps. But on speedtest I got speeds ranging from .2 to .5 mostly in the .2's the occasional .5. The ping to mumbai is 250+ and the ping to anyplace outside India is 400+.

I called bsnl,they asked me to do the usual stuff, nothing worked, the he asked me to check the snr of the modem....which I cant really see, as typing 192.168.1.1 does not bring anything(i'm behind a router, but I tried this after disconnecting the router and plugging the modem directly). I cant check the statistics from my router, it's a netgear wgr614 which doesnt show line stats.

Ayone know how to check the stats of the line? I'm not really sure how this problem came up? It was perfect for up until the last two weeks....

EDit: The plan I'm on is the 1350 ul plan, and the modem is a ut300r modem.

1. Type 192.168.1.1 in your browser.

2. Make sure the line comes to the modem and then to the PC bypassing the router.

3. Enter ID and password as admin.

4. In the landing page, you will find the SNR and attenuation values.

Hey dilip, as I mentioned in my post, I did try that,it comes up with nothing...the page your trying to access.....you know the generic internet explorer message that comes when a site is down. Do I have to install any drivers? I just plugged in the modem and it worked so I let it be.

Me Too.The Download Speed Is very low for thej Last 20 Days.wats wrong with bsnl.

2. When connected to Internet check your IP
What Is My IP Address - Shows Your IP Address
say 59.xx.xx.xx or 117.xx.xx.xx
retype same in address bar.
If you get a window to access modem try there.
usually ADSL: menu or connection status will show snr/attn data.

Elsewhere read that there was an undersea cable cut near Indonesia because of which we are experiencing high latency and low speeds.

Hey guys, just did a speed test, the speed is back to normal, about 1.7 mbps, and the ping is back to normal too... 150 to mumbai, and 100 to singapore.

Hopefully it will stay that way after 9am too. Thats when the speed really goes down.
