Question connecting laptop to WA1003A bsnl modem already conneted via ethernet to desktop

    sir,

I have BSNL Huawei Quidway WA1003A (type II modem) router connected to desktop (windows xp sp3) via Ethernet (RJ45 jack) with the connection type PPPoE. Now i bought dell laptop (windows7 64 bit home basic) with built-in Dell Wireless 1501 802.11b/g/n Half Mini Card. I want to connect my laptop to the same router as wireless, without affecting the desktop internet setup.

Kindly guide me for wireless connectivity configuration at both ends (including security settings), i.e. modem and laptop.

will there be any conflict arise due to existing of two different operating systems in both pcs (i.e. win xp 32 bit and win7 64 bit)

    Thanks in advance

    krishnan

    Hi,

I had the same modem earlier.

I have posted an answer for a very similar query on the link given below:

http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...03a-modem.html (How to Disable Wireless in Huawei WA1003A Modem ???)

    Please check it out.

No problem should arise due to the difference in operating systems. You may use WPA encryption as that is the highest supported by this particular modem.

You may also see this website, which shows the procedure with screen shots.( seelink below)
    2.
You can backup present router settings from modem menu to say
    C:/My Documents/wa1003a lan mode.
    3
..Make changes ONLY in wireless menu pages.

You can download application"connectify" your laptop will work as a wifi routerwithin range.
Connectify - Turn your Windows 7 laptop into a Wi-Fi Hotspot

    Feedback please.
    =============================

If you are on "Dialer" mode
( userID/PW entered in computer window )change to "always On PPP/PPPoe and enter userid/pw in modem wan page.

    Enable dhcp and give a range 192.168.1.3 to 192 168.1 10
CPE has got inbuilt DHCP server running. If you wish your PC or Laptop
to get auto IP assignment from CPE. You need to just enable the DHCP in CPE.
For this cleck on Setup on menu bar and select DHCP Configuration.
Select the check box ‘Server On’ and click on Apply. Save the configuration

Confirm ssid appears in phone .
