If the receiving WLAN card is not sensitive enough, You may not get the advantage of
WIFI routers with multiple antennae.

In fact, home routers do quite a lot more than they did when I was buying just a couple or three years ago!
There is almost no difference when it comes to range. The older ones were having 2 antennas.
