    (A)Mention your modem/router model/make/number
    (B)The adapter voltage Input 230V A.C ~~~ Output ??? A/C or D.C ??/ Amps.
    (C)Plug center polarity if D.C
    (D)Mention using desktop or laptop.
when the computer is turned off.....
Basic Idea: Try to connect to unused output power port of desktop computer SMPS .
or connect to input switch of computer the adapter plug leads.
    (like the Monitor.)
    ( desktop only).

(C)From the Adapter a cable is taken to connect to modem Power socket.
The plug will be marked Inner positive or negative
    see the adapter cover.
    (D) You have to connect the Input wires of modem adapter to
the Power On/off switch of desktop !!!!

    computer switch : ON/OFF
One pair of wires goes to switch from power input socket in desktop ( usually 3 pins)(any parallel socket for Monitor?)
    (E)
connect modem's adapter's input wires to same switch output pins.
When system off/ modem also off.!!!!!

Why go for the hassle ? What will you do when the modem goes kaput ?

Just connect it the power outlet of your UPS.

1.Please don't assume something which.member has not reported.
( are we sure he has an UPS in use ?)
2.Also give clear instructions, how the modem should be connected to UPS ( if he has one , or is prepared to spend the money to buy an UPS.
    3.
Develop a scientific temper, and discuss the requirement of thread starter.
Is there any way to shutdown the modem when the computer is turned off

    4.
By the way, explain how the modem will go "kaput".
if the adapter input wires are connected to the output pins of computer(desktop) power ON/OFF switch.
