Question Bridgemode or PPPoE for wireless access?

    Hi,

I have a Billion 5200S modem & Netgear WGR614 wireless router. I used to have this setup working well until recently when I had to reset the connections. I have forgotten how i got it setup in the first place and couldnt find that forum/thread that I used then. Please help me out.

    - I can access internet wired through Billion Modem without any problem (if i set the connection type as PPPoE & not Bridge)
    - I am able to establish connection with the wireless router. (I have the connection type as PPPoE for router)
    - I DO NOT HAVE connection between WirelessRouter & Billion Modem.

Some of the specific questions I have are,

    1) Should the Modem be in Bridge mode or PPPoE mode?
    2) Do I need to set the IP address manually in the TCP/IP config (as recommended by some posts) or use dynamic IP address option?

    Thanks in advance
    Hari

If wish to connect multiple computers to the modem then you must use PPPoE mode otherwise you can use either bridge or PPPoE mode. However, PPPoE mode is recommended one.

    1. Put the modem in PPPoE mode.

    2. Either static ip or dynamic ip doesn't matter as long as you mention the router's address as the default gateway, however, to get a dynamic ip address you must enable dhcp in the router.

I DO NOT HAVE connection between WirelessRouter & Billion Modem.
    present settings of the modem
After ensuring you are connected to Internet and can surf,
    1) Should the Modem be in Bridge mode or PPPoE mode?
    Step 1:
Go to management and BACKUP present settings of the modem to
    say C:/My Documents/Billion.modem PPPoE OK.
    Step 2:
Access billion menu pages and enable DHCP
    give a range say 192.168.1.3 to 192.168.1.10
    SAVE REBOOT
    Step 3 :
Remove the RJ45 cable from computer end and connect to
    Internet PORT of WGR614V(
    Step 4 :
Get another RJ45 cable and connect from LAN1 to computer back.
    Step 5:
    Try setting up wgr614V9
SEE "Broadband How to......" forum and select a guide by @just4kix
for connecting modem+wifi router. Netgear model available.

    STEP 6:
set the IP address manually in the TCP/IP config
    Select Obtain IP address automatically
    STEP 7 :
If any problem copy/paste data here. ipconfig /all
only for LAN and WLAN connection.
( No tunnel needed data if seen )
    Give feedback item wise.
