    Exclamation Issue with attenuation in line.

    Hi all,
    I Just got shifted to noida, got a new BSNL broadband connection and here is when the problem starts.
    I live around 4-5 km away from the office. The DSL link keeps resetting every now and then at random intervals. sometimes it keeps restarting infinitely.

    I have a BSNL NSN modem that i bought with another connection, so its warranty is void with this connection.
    Its stats are:
    SNR(d/l): 4~16 dB
    attenuation: ~35 dB

    The BSNL guy gave me a new modem for trial. It has the same issue. The stats in this brand new modem are;
    SNR(d/l): ~30 dB
    attenuation: ~32dB

    Now this BSNL guy gave up and asked me to call server room. (I donno what the hell will they do).
    I have no issue in paying for a new modem but I want the issue resolved.

    Can somebody tell what should be the exact term i should use to describe the problem to BSNL guys. I think if I tell them exactly what to do, they will do that instead of troubleshooting.
    Any amount of help is appreciated guys

    Take a print of your SNR and attenuation values and this pic. Show them and tell your line is faulty. Ask the line man to check the line for joints and non insulated parts.

    (a)
    Disable ADSL2+ in mod mode ( DSL page) in both modems and try.

    (b)
    Mention/make and model. ( One NSN modem may be 1600?)

    (c)As suggested try to reduce Line attenuation.
    ( inspect for blackened contacts/oxidization/etc )

    REF:UTSTAR WA3002-G4 quick reference
    ( similar model)
    UPDATE 0840 PM:for AN1020-21 type II modem similar.

    Thanks dilip and essbebe.

    whenever I complain, the internet guy turns up n says dat "ur line is the best of all in the whole town Sir. Lineman has checked."

    I have disabled ADSL2+.

    old one is Nokia Siemens Residential router 1600.
    new one is AN1020-21 type II modem. (this is actually a very new model type just came in 1-2 month ago. costs 1800 now)

    I know of a joint at the dp where the wire is oxidised. will fix that myself.

    Is there some officer at BSNL who deals with faults and can understand the technical terms like SNR, attenuation etc? the internet guy had no idea what that means. He was "literally illiterate".

    Try Senior Divisional Engineer. He may be of some use.

    If nothing works, write to Nodal officer or Appellate authority. ID and phone no. on the backside of your bill.

    Better the line condition, smoother will be the connection.

    SNR of above 20 is sufficient to give to a very good broadband speed. I am happy with the speed with even 18 SNR.

    Spoke to Lineman, Internet Guy, JTO, SDO, SDE, DGM.
    Realized that this whole area(around 200-250 houses) suffer the same problem. people having BSNL connection is rare. even if they have, they use it for voice calls only.
    I produced a snapshot of the modem page with SNR values to All but only the JTO realised that there is a problem. No one else is even admitting that there is a problem.

    Now that 3G is out, try your luck there. Speed too is good. Don't forget to get a demo at your place.

    @meetdilip
    Please see No 29 here. Your comments requested.
    For Reliability and Speed use fo
    29. Never use Two ADSL Splitters on same line for any parallel phone connections, Instead use phone extension for using multiple connections.
    Not possible if extension is in first floor/fifth floor etc.
    BT has recommended only 3 phones in line having BB connection.
    ( Impedance matching etc )
    Should not affect as anyway ADSL splitter has
    no circuitry .for BB signals.

    @cbhawsar
    Please see the link given above for any additional tweaks possible.

    I am using only one splitter. I think the point is valid.

    ITI DNA-A211-1.
    Select STATISTICS/ADSL menu page.
    for snr /attn values for this unit.
    Save as screen shot/jpg picture for your modem/router
    From POST No 10.

    Yes. Just log in to the modem, you will find the values in the landing page.
