I just got new HTC desire handset.I got BSNL dataone connection and I am using Wi-Fi modem and accessing internet with UTStarcom on laptop
I want to connect and access net on my mobile with wi-fi network.So please let me know step wise setting to connect to broadband .Thanks

1. Configure your modem in PPPoE

2. Enable DHCP in your modem.

3. In the TCP/IP properties of your connection, set " Obtain IP address automatically".

I am very Dumb when it comes to gadgets
So please let me know how to configure the modem?

In my Blackberry 8520 Curve, there is a default browser. You can change the settings of that browser to work as Internet Browser or Hotspot Browser. When I set it as Hotspot browser, it starts working on Wifi.
Look for something similar in your HTC.

My problem is that I have password protected brodband network and I dont know how that password option to sert in mobile

Please mention your modem - model no and make.

Even if you use an encrypted connection, you will be able to find an option to enter password if modem and phone are configured correctly.

Presume the wireless network name appears in HTC and
you are asked for the security code.
confirm.
Example page:

Mention your wifi router model/make/number.

presume you can connect to Internet automatically, when you switch
on the system. confirm.

Thanks everyone who helped me to solve my Wifi issue

By doing Modem alteration making it PPOPE I am able to surf net with mind blowing speed on my deisre

Now I had to ask one que.I have updated my HTC desire's OS to Andriod 2.2(frayo) and pl tell me how to I install new applications on SD card as frayo supports it.pl let me know the settings

P.S I mean PPPoE

The Frayo upon Update itself stores applications either on SD card or phone depending upon file size! Thats so cool na.
And it allows to shift application from phone to SD card and vice-versa,without hampering application performance.So intelligient.I think I am falling in Love with HTC desire.
