Default Very Unusual Problem With BSNL Ethernet & WiFi Connections

Just subscribed to BSNL Broadband (plan Home900). Got the type 2 modem from BSNL (UTSTARCOM make & WA3002G4 ADSL2+ model). So it's a modem and wireless router clubbed together. It has 4 ethernet ports and one wi-fi port (I exactly donno what does that mean?!! only one port emitting wi-fi signal?!! but does that mean only one wi-fi enabled device can be connected?! ).

    Okay, now to business.

The connection was made initially using ethernet port to my desktop PC (running on Windows XP SP2).

Then I tried to configure the modem (visiting the URL 192.168.1.1), to modify the Wi-Fi connection because, at the initial stage, the signal was displayed as a open signal, and I could not connect to internet using that signal.

I secured the connection with WPA encryption, and then it was displayed as a secured connection, but still I could not connect to the internet.

Finally, today, one BSNL guy came and did something (I was not present at that time) to my laptop, and it was connected to that Wi-Fi signal.

    But the problems are that
    1. while connecting, it did not ask for the credentials I provided while setting up the connection. It asked for the BSNL provided credentials for the broadband account.
    1. And I still can not connect to the internet (though the Wi-Fi signal was detected) using my cellphone (HTC Wildfire). So it's something he did for the laptop. I really don't understand this.
    1. And he also said that both the ethernet and the wi-fi will not work together though I have not tested that, does it at all make sense?!! I am sure it does not. Signal coming through the telephone line is broken into different ports within the modem, so why won't those all work together!!!

Any help to my ridiculous problem? I have referred to a lot of threads in this forum and beyond...but could not really got any solid pointer to solve it...trying another in the next 15-20 mins...but will appreciate help from you guyz

Take a back up of present modem settings.

    To do

    1. Configure your modem in PPPoE mode.

    2. Enable DHCP in the modem.

    3. In the TCP/IP properties of your connection, set " Obtain IP address automatically"

    Feedback.

    Thanks for quick reply.

I have already done all that (I have gone through a lot of posts in this forum and others ) The LAN port connection was not tough at all, however, the wi-fi connection is giving me trouble. Though I'm connected now using wi-fi, however, as I said, it's not just generic. My cellphone can't connect to it.

    1.
Are you on "Dialer" mode ("Bridged"" userId/PW entered in computer window )
    or
or PPP/PPPoE mode UserId/PW entered in WAN page.
    2.
For connecting multiple systems you should be connected in
    PPP/PPPoE mode.
    3.
can you check the ID/ entered by BSNL technician ?
    4.
You can connect 4 systems to LAN ports and any number in WIFI mode
    laptops within range.
Check signature link wa 3002_g4 below.
    .
    5. Enable upNP box in modem/router.

    6. Copy/Paste ipconfig /all data here.

    1. I'm in PPPoE mode. Though I'm not sure, but I think I have provided the credential at the WAN page while configuring my modem.

    2. Alright.

    3. Yes. It's ct<area code><phone number>, as it should be. And the password also. In fact, when I'm connecting to the Wi-fi, it's asking for this credential, instead of asking for the Wi-Fi credential that I have configured.

    4. Absolutely logical.

    5. This I have to check.

Try without any encryption and check.

Post the screen shot of your wireless page.

Though I'm connected now using wi-fi
If you are getting connected to Internet and surf in wifi mode
go to mangement and Backup present settings to say
C:/My Documents/ BSNL settings for wifi

Go to RESET option and reset to factory settings.

Are you talking about the WPA encryption of the wi-fi?

Yes. At times, improperly configured encryption can act as a villain.

Well...now as the Wi-Fi is configured...now my ethernet port is not working

The LAN is working fine in my desktop. But while trying to connect to the broadband, it's not reaching up to credentials verification.

And I noticed that the LAN icon in the task bar, that was blinking with both the computer icons, now is blinking only with one (the left one). I just know that this means only one way traffic or something similar...but that's not helpful at all

Any help? Or should I post it in a different thread?

Try configuring a static IP for all systems and check.

Make a system restore point before attempting.

So, you mean, I type in the IP address manually instead of letting it obtaining the IP address automatically? And do I also need to set up the DNS manually?

And in case of this manual stuff, is there any particular IP address range I can choose from, or should avoid from?

Worth trying. Normally it will solve the problem. Enter the DNS in system itself.

You can choose from 192.168.1.0 -255. I use something like 192.168.1.10 and 192.168.1.25

Well...now the ethernet is also working but again, the not-so-understandable point is that my desktop is already connected to internet when it is started and I can't connect to internet by turning the icon on...but again...it's connected already

    anyway...it's connected now...both ethernet and wi-fi...so let's close this thread...I'll do a bit R&D and if I find some lead...then I'll be back again

and, thanks to you guyz...both of you

    Congrats.

In PPPoE mode, modem will automatically connect to internet. Using LAN icon, you can disable your net connection but not disconnect it. For that you need to switch off the modem. PS: I waited till 11:20 last day

I have referred to a lot of threads in this forum and beyond...but could not really got any solid pointer to solve it...trying another in the next 15-20 mins...but will appreciate help from you guyz
hi i got same problem can not connect my laptop n my cell phone simultaneously. please help

    Advanced options menu

    AHRule 1:

Did you try option (e) ?

can you RESET and try to make settings in PPPoE mode ?
Reset with power on for about 10 to 30 seconds.
Switch may be in the rear , or a small round hole near right leg of modem.
    Use a ball pen refill.
    Then try 192.168.1.1 .
( as per (a) in Post 24 you may still connect to Internet .
