    Default Bsnl evdo ?

Since my DSL has been giving me trouble - see my other thread - and the BSNL officials haven't done anything about my complaint, I'm thinking of switching to BSNL EVDO. I need to know some things about it :

    1. How's the speed in Kolkata ?
    2. How is the stability of the connection ? Is it prone to disconnections ?
    3. What are the charges ? In the BSNL tariff page of EVDO it says that Rs. 750/month is what I have to pay for unlimited along with some card charges. But what are those costs :

    Internet access charges

    Item Charges/pulse
    Internet Access Pulse 60 Seconds
Charges per minute Rs.0.40 per minute during peak hours
and Rs.0.20 during the off-peak hours
    as defined for PSTN

Composite charges inclusive of Internet Access and ISP charges

Due to my inability to post URLs, I had to type it myself. Hopefully you can google the page up.

    4. How consistent is the connection ? Do the speeds vary a lot ?
    5. How does it compare to BSNL dataone in terms of speed and stability ?

Before buying an EvDO, get a demo at your place. They will normally bring it at your place. Then you can check the actual speed you are getting. EvDO is good if you are not far from your exchange and no. of users per tower is less.

You may also check BSNL 3G. There is a plan for Rs. 4, 200 for 6 months. So in effect you get unlimited 3G @ Rs. 700 per month. Please check the BSNL 3G section for more details.

Bsnl EVDO is the most bogus thing available.very bad speeds.if number of users are more, you won't get tower at all.

1.depends on the local tower availability(max of 2.4mbps)
2.will not disconnect if there is a tower near you house
    3.initial charge is Rs.4000 ( modem price 3500 + activation charge 500)
4.speeds will depend on tower service
5.no comparison with data1.data1 is DSL.so its a lot faster bcoz of cables.

    check this.

I think some circles are providing rental scheme for BSNL EvDO card. Please check with your local exchange for more details.

    Got a link ?

Regarding 5, Dataone Home UL 750 is 512 Kbps, and the EVDO service for the same price is unlimited and "upto 2.4 mbps." How is this worse ?

Regarding 1 and 2, what's "near" ? An approximate distance would be nice.

So, how does 3G hold up to questions 1,2, 4 and 5 of the original post ?

Its worse bcoz the max speed is 2.4mbps.you will never actually get that unless your house is below the tower.

near means <=3km .check out link.its given in the FAQ.
