Thread: High Bsnl broadband data usage - High Bill

Kindly Suggest - encountering high broadband data usage thus high bill. On my account BSNL Broadband data usage is showing 2 mac addresses, one is of my bsnl modem and other unknown. That mac dosent resemble to my desktop and laptop. Recently i was out of the town for a week and thus modem was off for 7 days ... today i checked my usage details there is 300 mb data download/upload by same mac id as earlier. Experiencing this problem for past 2 months. This proves that there is no issue someone using my net via wireless. also i have wep and mac filter enabled for wireless.

I would like to know is it possible someone using my broadband by tapping my landline wire and connecting to his bsnl modem, as my net start automatically as i switch on modem as i have my office in commercial complex. As bsnl has server username and password both admin. Kindly Suggest.

1. Complain to Senior Divisional Engineer. If it is any sort of hacking, he will deal with it.

2. Move to an unlimited plan. Try UL 750.

3. Use Zamzom wifi tool ( Thanks to essbebe) and check if anybody else is connected to your wifi.

Download Networx from softperfect.com for desktop and laptop.
compare readings with bsnl usage portal.

During your absence desktop could be used by anyone.
(as your BSNLUSERID/PW entered/stored in WAN page )
Modem ID/PW admin admin does not make any difference.

You can change the PW to deny access to modem.to others.
