    Use Nero 10. It works fine on Windows 7. Also you can try Total video converter. I think it has a feature to merge files.

    Get the trial version from here and check. It will have the latest software.

    Nero - Download a trial version or update your current Nero software version

    I am not asking you to buy it. Use the trial version and check which one is working on your PC. There are many ways of getting it. I can't discuss here

    Did you tried Total video converter ?

    Try these alternatives also....

    Video editing:
    Xilisoft video converter

    Disc burning:
    ImgBurn
    BurnAware

    @harry

    Out of these, only ImgBurn is free....

    Having internet, don't complaint about any software being "not free"....
    You can always something over the internet, free or paid....

    Sorry, I couldn't follow half of what you wrote.

    If you want to merge the files or clip any segment, you can use this tool. it is free too.

    Free Video Converter - Any Video Converter Free Version - convert video to any formats, avi to MPEG, avi to MP4, flv to MPG
