Question Using Reliance Modem for BSNL connection

    Hiya fellas,

Recently my BSNL modem - ZTE -ZXDSL 831AII - (Type -1) went kaput.. I purchased it from BSNL about more than2 years ago. I went for replacement and they said it can't be replaced because it's out of 1 year warranty period.

Now, I just can't afford to spend flat 1800/- Rs suddenly and buy a new modem. My friend came up with a reliance modem which he is having no use of it.

Now I have 2 obstacles ahead,
    1) Input cable in BSNL modem was RJ11, and Reliance has RJ45.. I inquired about it, and came to know about RJ11 to RJ45 converter. Will it cope?
    2) However, If I go and buy one, Is it possible to configure reliance modem to use BSNL connection?

(I tried to post URLs linking to modem specs, but Unable to do so because of less posts. Apologies for that)
    Thanks.

I am using AR 800V v3.0 wifi modem. You can get it on Rs. 80 per month rent from BSNL.

    1.
    Suggestion by @meetdilip was appropriate.
Since you mentioned this price, it is presumed
you want a wifi router to use for using in multiple systems ,
    laptop etc.
An adsl modem is also available for Rs 1100/= from BSNL>

Members here don't have "Sixth sense" to guess,
the requirements, if scanty information is given. See (3) below.
    2.
You can also report what is the problem with
ZTE/ZXDSl 831AII modem. Unable to access settings,
LED's not lighting up, power adapter faulty etc.

    3.

Without knowing the Reliance modem details,
    like model/make/number
unable to suggest a straight answer !
    4.
If you can save as screen shot(JPG) the Device Info Page
    post it as Annexure here.
    Procedure :
When posting your message Select "Go Advanced "
    Scroll down the page
    Select "Manage attachments"
    Upload the screen shot
    Or
    Upload at tinypic.com
    give forum link omitting http://www
( no dots and spaces )

    Para two:
    5.
If the RJ45 ( Is it input to modem or output from modem ?)
is connected from the Reliance modem to
the ethernet port of the computer (Desktop)
by just entering the BSNL UserId/PW In "Dialer"
you may get connected to Bsnl BB service.
    6.
    If not,
access modem settings and select PPP/PPPoE enter BsnlID/
    PW etc
Link 0_35/ VPI/VCI 0 and 35 same for Reliance and Bsnl.
    Confirm.

    7.
or check model number in my signature links.

I appreciate some of the suggestions you've come up with... Especially 5 & 6th.

My Reliance modem is "mta 6328-1be2s"..

PS: My major problem is, as you suggested this modem might take my BSNL credentials automatically.. But I'm not even able to access this modem by 192.168.1.1 in the first place.. I did reset modem to factory settings.. But I have not connected my BSNL lease line to WAN port yet.. I believe that's not necessary.

Shouldn't it able to access modem settings by above trick.. Or there's any other steps to do so?
