    Default ADSL Link Problem

I use utstarcom modem, and recently i've started getting adsl link problem. The adsl light is not stable, it is on for a few minutes and then goes off and this repeats in a cycle. I checked the SNR which is 12 - 13 dB and Line Attenuation is 28.5 - 16 dB. Is this normal? I called BSNL helpline, they dont have an answer. Should I insist on changing the line? What is the cost? I live in Pune.

(1)Try in DSL menu GDMT uncheck box ADSl2 +
    Recheck snr/attn.

IN DNS use google 8.8.8.8 and opensdns 208.67.220.220
    Recheck snr ATTN. stable connection.
    (3)
    Mention modem/model/make/number
    (4)
If on "Dialer" mode uncheck "bridged" and select
    PPP/PPPoE mode .

    1. Check the splitter.

    2. Make sure all connections come after splitter. Check this diagram.

    3. What error code do you get while disconnection ? For PPPoE mode, try this link

    UT-300R2U ADSL MODEM MULTIUSER CONFIGURATION

    4. Get your line checked by the line man. Ask him to remove joints and non insulated parts.

    5. Check the adapter of modem.

    6. If possible, get a new adapter and modem from your friend or BSNL and check whether it solves the issue.

Power adapter of modem. Connect the line directly to modem (bypassing splitter) and check if you are getting disconnection.

It can be a modem fault, try another modem at your place and check.

@essbebe: i meant it is not a wifi modem, it is a normal modem with a ethernet port and usb port. I have a desktop and use the ethernet port for connection. But I dont understand how the settings can affect my adsl link? I have been using the internet connection on same settings for the past 2 years at least.

@meetdilip: I will try and get a new modem from a friend and check out what happens. The splitter is not the problem as even direct connection without the splitter am facing the same problem.

I checked the site. My main problem is that when I change the setting from bridged mode to pppoe mode, i cannot connect to the internet, the dialer stalls on "connecting via wan miniport" and there is an error that the remote computer did not respond. But when I change to bridge mode, it connects with no problem. And still the adsl link problem is persistent. None of this has solved that.
Also thanks alot essbebe n meetdilip for your help.

No need to dial if you are in PPPoE. Just switch ON the modem and you will be able to connect to net.

    PPPoE mode :

    1. ID and password entered in modem itself.

    2. Best set up for using more than one machine.

    3. Supposed to be more secure than Bridge/dialer mode.

    4. Can surf net by just switching ON the modem.

    Bridge mode :

    1. All ports are open.

    2. ID and password is stored in dialer. You need to click " connect " to get connected to the system.

    3. One machine should be used as server to share connection.

This case can only be solve by BSNL. The problem either from the DSLAM or from the cable. You canot do anything from your side.

Possible. Switch off the base and recheck.
    From Post No 1.UT300R2U
I checked the SNR which is 12 - 13 dB and Line Attenuation is 28.5 - 16 dB.
If possible from Modem menu pages
report ( with phone on and Off.)
In DSL incheck adsl2+ and enable bitswap.
In Management cheeck menu item Client TR_069
    ,and disable if enabled.
Mod mode selected snr attn line rate data.

Test the modem at a friend's internet connection.
If same problem see Post No.18 and contact JTO BB in your exchange.
If on Dialer mode try PPP/PPPoE or visa versa.

Before changing whole line (cable pair) just suggest to lineman to check dsl(link) status on exchange MDF, If there link is ok problem may on line, if not problem on DSLAM PORT on exchange, then suggest to change your PORT.
