Default I don't know what it is..Frequent change of Plan?

    Hi,

I'm getting frequently disconnected because of the low SNR values. I've tried calling BSNL but the line is either busy, or temporarily out of service or they don't receive it.

I've uploaded the pics. Just check out the Line Rate after each disconnect. Why does it happen. The actual one is 500 up and 2000 down. Why does it keep switching betweenw the two value as shown in the pic? Is that a change of plan. Do I have to be concerned about it?

Also, BSNL doesn't show the details of the usage in short intervals. I can see the usage of the whole day but not in hourly basis or something like that(Unless I reboot my modem). And, one day, I wasn't even on computer for 2 hours, I don't even have torrent and suddenly the usage show 1147 MB on that day! damn! I had to pay bsnl for nothing.

    1. Use a bandwidth meter to keep track of your usage. You can try Shaplus bandwidth meter or Networx.

    2. Do you use data.bsnl.in ? If yes, try datafox.

Please note: Shaplus and Networx are independent and won't be retrieving data from BSNL site. So you will be able to get a real time value of your usage.

    3. Do you use wifi ? If yes, use an encryption. Someone may be using your wifi without your knowledge.

    4. Talk to the line man. Get your line checked. As him to remove joints and non insulated parts. Don't wait for BSNL to attend your call.

IN DSL menu OF YOUR MODEM
    Uncheck ADSL2+ ADSL2 annex M
    Enable Bitswap
If Mod mode is auto select select Gdmt.
    Check stability.
Your Line attn also should reduce.
Check visually for loose joints/rusted/ blackened contacts.

The speed of download approx 10MB/min (1200/2=600 MB/hour)
for a speed of approx 10MB/60=
    150KB/sec approx
Confirm your tariff plan speed is upto 2 Mbps.
    Speed download
    2 Mbps 256KB/sec D/L (*ideal) or 256kB etc
    1Mbps 128 KB/sec
    512Kbps 64KB/sec
    256Kbps 32KB/sec

Thanks a lot for the reply.

    1. Tried shaplus but I got the wrong stats from it. I was on video call for some time. It showed that the usage was 200 MB. But I also use task manager each time I want to check how much I use. Its very precise. I've checked it with BSNL usage and both match.
I'll try networx and see if it works.

    2. Yes, I use datafox. Very helpful. Could have been more helpful if data.bsnl.in updates the data very often and because of that reason I always see datafox showing the change in values about 100MB.

    3. No, not wifi. But today I've not yet experienced any problem with internet, I really don't know why. May be I can expect it at night.

    4. Yeah, sure. I will. I've also registered a complaint at 198. Yet no response.

Your telephone line has problem, noise is presence on your line and this is why speed fluctuation you can see in the GUI page. Pick up the telephone receiver and try to hear the noise or cracking sound.

Call Bsnl to repair your telephone line.

    1. I had changed the settings to what you've told a few months back when I had problems with torrent download speed.
Is there any other way I can reduce attenuation?

    2. My plan speed is upto 2Mbps.
But I still wonder what could have been downloaded at that rate. 700 down and 400 up.

I don't have torrent on my computer, only because, even with proper scheduling and stoppage at 8am, the modem light kept blinking and task manager showed that some data kept being downloaded. When I exit the torrent, it stops.
Could it be the modem's(4year old) problem? Can BSNL site can show wrong usage sometimes(though I think its highly unlikely). ? I still wonder about the value of data rate in the pics I posted.

Ok. Thanks. =] Yeah, there is some noise but not always. SNR values are sometimes so good. 30/27. The whole day I've had those values.
Well, I can hear some noise from my old modem too. Probably its time to get everything checked once.
