Thread: Problem opening few sites over Wi-Fi

Hi,

I am having a NetGear DG834 router+modem. Some websites do not open at all and some do not open partially on Wi-Fi. This only happens when over Wi-Fi. I have a Beetel modem an when it is connected over LAN, there is no such problem. Some sites not opening are: active.tutsplus and addthis. There cannot be problem in the system or OS because same problem is observed on my PC with Win 7, Laptop with Win Vista and on my mobile phone. Any suggestions?

1. Go to network places, in the TCP/IP properties of wifi connection, set DNS as 208.67.222.222, 8.8.8.8.

2. If still it persists, enter these DNS values in your modem.

3. Such sites will easily open in Opera Turbo.

Try to change wireless channel to 9 or 11 and if it doesn't help then you can try to change MTU to 1450, 1492 or 1500.

Tried this but it didn't work. Also I don't think that could be a problem as it works perfectly when connected on another LAN modem without any such settings.
Opera Turbo mode isn't a correct option as there is some other problem, not a browser specific issue.

Can you tell me what it is ?

Did you tried Opera Turbo ? Did it work ? There is no compulsion that you should use Opera Turbo. Need the info for rectifying this issue

Post the screen shot of DNS values in modem.

Install hot spot shield. It will solve the issue.

The sites open well when connected over LAN using the Beetle modem, irrespective of the browser. Just when switched to Wi-Fi, the problem occurs.

If same DNS DHCP etc ( as in wifi )confirm.

Another info which might be helpful is that the sites not opening, sometimes work fine when using a proxy site. Recent example of a site not loading is Gravatar. It opened on LAN using Beetel Model but not on LAN or Wi-Fi when used the NetGear modem.

@essbebe: didn't get what exactly you mean... Should I change the DNS for Wi-Fi? If yes, I need to change it for the Wi-Fi Card or in the modem?

Tried bot separately. Once by putting the DNS in the WLAN card and next time by putting the DNS in the Router configuration. Problem persists.
Disabling the Firewall stops connecting to any website.
Don't want to put it in Dialer mode, as I need an always on connection.

The DNS provided to me at the time of installation was:

Tried both these separately in Router and WLAN card but no difference.


Do I need to put the DNS settings in both and then try?

For testing you were required to DUPLICATE identical entries in Netgear.
I don't know how to post in more simpler language.

Hi sorry for following up on this so late, but was not well during last week.
I have entered the DNS values in both the system LAN and in the Router, but not able to fix it. I was trying to switch it to dialer mode but was not able to figure out how. Can you help me in this?

check MTU value in your modem/router setup.it should be 1492 & you can try lower values also(some users had reported that opening certain bank sites required lower mtu values).if mtu value is incorrect some sites will not open & some will partially open but these sites can be opened through proxy sites like anonymouse or using opera turbo.

@essebebe: It doesn't works with tinurl either. I tried opening the second URL you had mentioned but the site got stuck while loading data from: s7.addthis.com server


@whitestar_999: MTU value is set to 1492. Tried with 1490 but didn't work. I also experience issues of opening ICICI bank sites over Wi-Fi.

try MTU value 1452 or 1450 & see if it solves the problem.
from anther forum:

1) GO TO INTERFACE SETUP >INTERNET
2) IN TCP MSS OPTION PUT 1360 (WHICH WAS 0 EARLIER)
3) IN TCP MTU OPTION PUT 1492 (WHICH WAS 1500 EARLIER)
4) CLICK ON SAVE BUTTON

my advice is try MTU values only.one user even reported that using MTU value of 1200 solved his problem.
