How many machines do you connect at the same time ? If more than one, you have no choice but to use PPPoE. If you are using Jdownloader or similar download managers which automate " 1 click hosting " downloads, bridge mode will be beneficial.

I use to have PPPoE since the days when I had only one PC. PPPoE is considered more secure than PPPoE. In Bridge mode, all ports are open and hence no need for port forwarding.

May I know the purpose of this question ? Which mode are you in ? and any difficulties you are facing.

I prefer to put this a different way: router (always on) or bridge (dialup) mode. That seems to me to be more technically accurate, as it reflects how the box is actually used.

For the novice, "dialup" reflects the fact that they have to do something on their PC to bring up the connection. It's a good word to give the non-technical something to relate to what they previously did with a modem.

I could be wrong: I didn't do any network study for ten years. I am open to correction and update on these views!

For me, there is no question that Router, or always-on mode, is simpler, less bother and more secure. Even with one PC, I wouldn't ever do it any other way.

The only justification I have ever heard for bridge (dial-up) mode that impressed me, was a description from a member here of the setup he uses to download large quantities of material, unatended, in the night, exploiting automated closing and bring up of the line to change IP addresses, thus obtaining optimal speeds for repeated downloads from his source sites. No doubt a similar system could be devised for router-mode, but he had put a great deal of work into designing his system, and did not want to start all over again. Problem was that it made it much more complex to add further machines to his network, although he did achieve this using Windows internet connection sharing. That thread is here (Problem on accessing another computer on a network.).
