Thread: LAN on desktop not working, wifi working fine

I have a laptop and a desktop. I use Ethernet for desktop and wifi for laptop. In laptop, I am able to connect using both Ethernet and wifi. But couldn't in desktop. I have both XP SP2 and Windows 7 Ultimate on my desktop. Both are showing limited or no connectivity. I configured static IP, still no success. In XP, not it shows connected, but unable to connect.

I am using AR 800V v3.0 and Nokia Siemens C 2110. I used to both to confirm whether it is modem problem. But neither AR800V nor C2110 works. I am using wifi to post this. It will be nice if anyone can shed some light on this issue.

Check your ethernet card properties . check drivers etc.
post ipconfig /all for desktop

Later connect rj45 from AR 800V3.

properties
New window
On top ethern card listed.
select Configure. ensure enabled /drivers etc.

Me too thinking LAN card is the villain. Hope it some mistake from BSNL.

I think you need to install the proper driver for your LAN card, dont use default driver from microsoft because it's some time not working. Install the proper driver for your LAN card from the driver CD provided by your LAN card manufacturer.

Check the cable you use for connecting to your modem, change it for testing purpose to make sure your current cable is OK. Because this type of problem could be happen from the fault cable.

Do you have two N/W adapters attached... If so then ipconfig /all should have listed something about the Microsoft Teredo also right??

Is this Microsoft Teredo is for IPv6? just trying to understand..

Desktop LAN " limited or no connectivity"
Tried two modems c2110/ar800V3 ( both similar modems)
Laptop working in LAN /wifi mode.

Suspect : ethernet card.Via rhine Fast Ethernet card.

Create a System Restore Point in desktop for Both OS.

For Xp sp2 some fix/patch is available..
Since you have tried windows 7 too, not suggested.

Back up registry.

Now working fine on Windows 7.

Went to Network and sharing center > See full map > The link between gateway and internet was broken > Tried troubleshooting > It said " DHCP " not enabled > I click enable fix > Limited or No connectivity fixed.

I recommend CCleaner from Piriform just google it. Its pretty safe been using it for about 2 years with out any problems....

Update : Just tried on XP. Earlier it was not getting connected. Used the " repair " function. Now working fine on XP too.

.Don't see only the Link description, what you see here.
Please download any application and try it. Check the additional options /menu items etc.
Then compare with existing similar application.
for example : Ccleaner does not have Network tweaking.

Ya I did know that CCleaner doesn't have the tweaking ability... I was not comparing the two just giving choices... Sorry for the if i mislead you....
