    Post [Help]BSNL 500C+ vs BSNL 650 UL

Hey there I am back with a query..!!! :P

Well just migrated from BSNL 500C+ to 650 UL & felt that I have committed a mistake..!!!

I am a heavy downloader with a max download & upload if 90+ GB in Jan 2010..!!!

Can anybody suggest me what to do, as I am bugged up with this crappy speed [256 kbps] of 650 UL plan, should I change my plan back to 500C+ or should I stick on to 650 UL plan..???

Or any other way out like some wireless net or something, I don't wanna spend more than 700 bucks on internet..!!!

PS: - I presently reside in Belgaum, Karnataka & the area which I reside does not have AirTEL Landline, so if you suggesting that then it is out of the scope..!!!

& if you suggesting any other service provider please suggest me the plan as well..!!!

    Thank you..!!!

You mean UL 625 ? It has only 256 Kbps speed. I am using UL 750. Getting 512 Kbps unlimited. But that too has less speed compared to your requirement. If not interested in UL plans, Home 500 is the next best option.

You may also try BSNL 3G. There is an offer with Rs. 4,200 for 6 months. In effect you will get unlimited for Rs. 700 per month. Speed will be around 1.5 - 2 Mbps.

Refer this thread for more info

You are not alone. Most of our members like to have high speed plans. But the fact is that bandwidth is costly in India. But 3G seems giving great speeds. Check the plans. Many are getting 2 Mbps unlimited for Rs. 700 per month.

    Default Yo can but........

You should have known before changing the plan as 256kb means just about 30 to 40 KBs per second. I guess you might have changed your plan due to usage limitation problem. But let me tell you that you would not get speeds as good as you get in 500C+ plan. My friend changed the plan to 750 unlimited but still he is not happy with the speed. He is now thinking about going for more costly plans like the 1100 plan etc. Its your choice but I personally feel that the 500 combo plans have good value for money and great unmatchable download speeds. You have to just keep a tab on your usage. This is what we call "pinch wth salt".

    (a) U/L plan speed upto 256 Kbps 32 KB/sec
    (b)tariff plan speed upto....2 Mbps 256 KB/sec
( ideal conditions ) 8 times more speed.
If you spend 16 Hours in day time from 08-24 16 Hours(a)
you can do same download in 2 Hours say 06-08 AM(b)

routine surfing in day time can be within 50 MB ( 1.5GB/30)
    or 80 MB approx ( 2.5GB/30)
Use Firefox and adblock pluis flash Block No script add ons.
get additional 30 to 40 %. . visiting same web sites again and again.
Any new website disable addons for a day or two and then block.

Always switch off modem at 0155AM AND AT 0755AM
    manually or using auto schedulers.

Well shifting from 750 UL to 500C+ in middle of the month is risky as I don't trust BSNL wrt billing, so will shift back to 500 C+ on Feb 1st

Thanks to everyone for their support

Stick with a Home 500 connection.

You get an average of 2Mbps at all times which is enough for any kind of non-video web browsing, internet radio and youtube at lower resolutions.

Most importantly, night time (2-8) is actually unlimited.

You can schedule torrents to download in this window, and download 20-30GB or more every month easily.

No other plan offered by BSNL offers this.

Real Unlimited plans - awful speeds, 1/4th of home 500 typically.
Fake (FUP) unlimited plans - no night time unlimited. 2mbps speeds are kinda pointless if you have downloads capped at something ridiculous like 4GB or 8GB.
BSNL 3G - wireless internet is ALWAYS unreliable, with tons of packet loss, dropped connections and variable signal quality.

I find it rather odd that India is the only country in the world where investments happen in 3G and wireless and that cable internet is largely ignored (the next logical step after twisted pair adsl/dsl).
