You can get a wifi modem cum router from BSNL for Rs. 80 per month rent or Rs. 1,800 on outright purhase. If you use a third party modem/router, BSNL won't give support and will blame your router for even line issues like disconnection and low speed. I am using AR 800V v 3.0 (wifi modem) on rent from BSNL. Quite happy with the performance.

I am using UL 750. I use one desktop, one laptop and a smart phone. BSNL modem is the cheapest option available.

    Hi Dileep
UL 750 gives you what average speeds and what fair usage GB limit (5 or 10 GB ?)and afterwards 256 kbps?
I had Tata Indicom ADSL broadband (pre paid)for 3-4 years and it was ok. But was expensive (used to recharge Rs 3500 oevery 3 months).
Stopped the Tata ADSL service 3-4 months back as Iam travelling a lot past 6 months.
So No wired broad band at home at the moment.
Right now wifey has Releiance Net connect USB 2g broadband usb stick (post paid given by office) to use in her Mac notebook and I have Tata photon 2g USB stick prepaid .
Just today got bsnl 3g sim and will wait and get a Huawei mobile wireless router soon.(instead of adding one more usb stick like Huawei E1750/UMG 1831/K4505.
However considering BSNL UL750/UL 1100 with BSNL rented wireless router as you suggested to wifi connect the 2 desk tops at home(mine with twin 22" LCD monitors for Bloomberg Trading station) and the other for my daughter .

UL 750 does not have FUP. It is a pure unlimited plan @ 512 Kbps. You can use wifi in desktop if you have wifi card on it. 3G is a good option, but BSNL router won't allow you to connect to it and set up a wifi network at home. To use BSNL router, you need BSNL wired connection. If you intend to share wifi over 3G USB stick, you need to buy a separate router which supports USB modem.

May be you are right. Since both my desktops have (or capable of accepting wifi add on card) ,I should get Huawei E585 and set up a 3g wifi set up connecting all devices with Rs 4200 /6 months unlimited plan.
while travelling use photon existing 2g broadband stick or get another bsnl 3g sim & use it thro phone (as iam doing right now) .

I want to setup an wifi hotspot in my institution. The range of the wifi should be 1KM. Now I want to know the hardware and software needed for that with strong security. If any one of our forum member has any idea then kindly reply with tentative budget.
