    Default Wrong data usage (UL1350)

    Hi,

My BSNL broadband plan is UL1350. As per the plan my bandwidth is reduced to 516 Kbps from 2 Mbps after usage reaches 20 GB.

My problem is BSNL portal is showing excessive data usage even when I didn't really download/upload as much data.

I have ShaPlus installed on my system since last 2 months. For the month of January (1st-12th) BSNL portal is showing my usage as around 8.5 GB! While in fact my actual usage is around 4.5 GB!

    Here are the screenshots:

    BSNL portal:

    ShaPlus:

This is happening every month. Only this month I have observed it carefully.
What can be done about this? Why is BSNL portal showing excessive data usage?

    Thanks in advance

    1.
    QUERY
How many systems you have ?
Do you use a laptop in WIFI mode . ANY VOIP in use ?

    COMMENT
Shaplus meter can be enabled/disabled at user's discretion, and not valid proof for Data usage.
    3.
    SUGGESTION

Use FireFox Browser with Adblock Plus/Flash/Block/ NoScript to reduce usual surfing data usage by 30 to 40%. to enjoy the benefit of higher speed .

    1. I have only one system. My desktop. No WIFI. No VOIP.
    2. ShaPlus is always on. Yesterday I installed Networx. I will monitor the usage using Networx also.
    3. I have installed AdBlock Plus

You know the thing is, with my connection when I cross 20 GB limit, my internet connection becomes useless. I don't get the steady 512 Kbps speed after 20 GB limit is crossed.

If I try to download something the speed is shown in bytes!!! It becomes so useless that it couldn't even complete the test on SpeedTest.net!
This happend for 80% time after 20 GB limit is crossed. So If I cross 20 GB limit on 15th of the month, for rest of the month I cannot use my internet (80% times).

I complained about this to BSNL. They are saying all the parameters are OK and line is also OK. I told them that after I cross 20 GB, I'm supposed to get flat 512 Kbps bandwidth. The BSNL people said that I would not get flat 512. It's upto 512 Kbps which I don't believe is the case.

So basically there are two problems, one is wrong/excesive data usage. And second is unusable internet after I cross my 20 GB limit.

Are you sure that you have selected proper adapters in both Shaplus and Networx ? In Shaplus, right click the icon in system tray and click " settings " to check your adapter that are in use.

Which ever bandwidth meter you use, what is shown in the BSNL portal is the final value. So keep an eye on this value.

And second is unusable internet after I cross my 20 GB limit.
    Mention your modem/model/make/number.

    one is wrong/excesive data usage.
Flash block . streaming video advts flash also use much data.

And second is unusable internet after I cross my 20 GB limit.
Check Statisitics/ADSL data showing mod mode sntr attn.
When 20GB exceeded test again and try to use GDMT
    ( Uncheck adsl2 + box )

    Feedback.

    Modem: ITI DNA-A211-I

This is how my ADSL Statistics look:

I'm not sure if I understood this correctly.
How do I force the modem to use GDMT?
Should I keep the ADSL2+ box unchecked all the time?

    Mu current DSL settings:

By the way, what's the significance of these settings (GDMT & ADSL2+)?

    Thanks

How do I force the modem to use GDMT?
when adsl2 + box is unchecked
usually GDMT will be selected or adsl2

Should I keep the ADSL2+ box unchecked all the time?
    Yes. if problem solved.

By the way, what's the significance of these settings (GDMT & ADSL2+)?
The synchronised rate ( Max ) and actual rate differ.
for a stable connection with a tariff plan of lower speed GDMT preferred. your modem shows speed D/L max say 2 Mbps.

Check speed here and have a record U.K.Server. do two tests each time.
MINE Home 750 max speed 512 Kbps.

    Para two:
If you check the data usage on date wise basis, In BSNL portal and NetworX you may get a clue how heavy d/l are shown.

Even now your modem does not show speed above say 2 Mbps.
