    Angry Wrong usage record on BSNL portal

    Hello Forum,
    I am a regular BSNL Broadband user(500 combo night unlimited plan)[/SIZE] for the last three years and I never used to have a problem with usage checking but since the time they have introduced this selfcare......portal, I have found it increasingly difficult to check my broadband usage. However with a few tools like Shaplus, networx and bsnl usage check utility I have kept a tab on my daily usage.
    But today in afternoon when I checked my daily usage through Bsnl utility it showed that I had used excessively upto 2000MBs. I went to the portal and I found the same thing there. When I was checking the portal records I realized that the records are showing normal usage except on 09/01/2010. It showed usage on 09/01/2010 of 2256MBs. The problem is that on that particular day it had counted a total usage for 24 hours from 15:27 to next day's 15:27. This means that they did not discount my night usage from 2am to 8am during which I use bittorrent for downloading.
    When I did check ntwrox and shaplus utility , I found out that they have indeed made a mistake and it is technical error on their part. My daily usage before 2am was 70 MB and between 2am to 8am it was around 2000MB.
    Now I am going to register a complaint with the Bsnl authorities and see what happens.
    However i have posted my situation on this forum to know whether anyone else has been having similar problems. Plus I also feel that Bsnl has been creating problems intentionally to force users to change plan to one of their unlimited plans. I have noticed that this 500 combo plan is highly popular among Bsnl Broadband users. What do you say about my situation or what steps should I take and what do you think about Bsnl policies. Please give some of your precious time to this post. I will be highly thankful.........................

    Usual advice :
    Switch off the modem at 0155 and 0755 AM
    Restart modem at 0205 AM and 0805AM
    This precaution, is for any difference in computer clock/Bsnl time etc.

    You can do it manually or by using an Auto scheduler/s.

    Para two:
    09/01/2010 of 2256MBs. The problem is that on that particular day it had counted a total usage for 24 hours from 15:27 to next day's 15:27.
    Average say 2400MB/24= 100 MB per hour.
    You may get discount for 800 MB approx.
    Or if you take print out of NetworX hour by hour readings and also bsnl portal's usage page , for comparison
    and show to A.O. He may relent ! and accept your calculation/s.

    My usage portal BSNL Portal automatically splits the meter timings at 0200AM and 0800AM. I am on Home 750 U/L. since Dec 1st and a NEW user/connection..

    Thanks essbebe for quick reply. The records clearly indicate that their record failed to capture properly. My modem must have got switched on and off atleast 10 times during the period plus my portal also generally(since last 3 years) detects automatically for 2am-8m period but it failed only on that single day first time since I have taken this connection. And if you could see the records they clearly indicate that something weird have happened on that day. I am going to explain them once and if they do not agree they have a court notice coming their way(I'm a law student). I have been observing their bad service since a long time and its first time that I have to fight with them. Not agreeing to my intimation might be costing Bsnl a lot of reputation and money, I guess...................

    Great dude, they are worth it. Some one has to stand against them. All the best for this, and please keep us informed about your advancements.

    Default switch off and switch on modem

    You have close your previous session at 0200 am athorwise that session will continue and it will counted in usage
    If u have done that Give me your telephone number

    No Pavan Please try to understand that BSNL does not ask us to close our session. There server do it automatically with timed resets. It should have automatically reset the time at 2am but it did not. It has been doing the same since last 3 years. Failed just first time on that day. I do switch off my modem at 2.10 am for extra precaution but that is pointless.
    In any case I have written to my local exchange head and it seems they are working on the problem because I am not able to check my usage currently. But BSNL users should understand that, as far as I know, you are not required to close your modem as it is automatically happening.At least in my city no one is told to do so. I don't know why you say that though....................
    Users/Consumers should not take blame upon themselves and worry. These BSNL guys feed on user's ignorance.

    confirm you checked in selfcare portal.
    not in http://data.bsnl.in ( main data base)
    While transferring/copying data error could have been made.

    Confirmed,I had checked it through selfcare portal only. And also data.bsnl.in does not work for me. I guess they have some server reset timings(apart from modem rest intervals) which failed to work properly on that day.I thought that some other people also must be having the same problem but I am yet to see any new posts as yet (about that day's error).May be people will respond when the bill would come as many people are not in a habit of daily checking their usage.Let's see..........

    to check Broadband usage.
    sdc ndc edc or wdc
    Some other member can check the records for the particular date.
    9th Jan 2011,his usage, whether shown on H24 basis without break.

    Default BB 600C. Night Unlimited usage error observed on 22 May 2011

    I have encountered the same problem mentioned.
    As per the usage statistics shown in the site data.bsnl.in, 3873 MB (3966497 KB) has been logged under the "Chargable Units Excluding Night Unlimited for the usage period starting from "21-5-11 10:07:37 pm" to "22-5-11 07:06:09 AM". I have been a BSNL dataone user for the past 2 years. The same problem was encountered some time back, but then i was using BB 500C plan. At that time when i spoke to the BSNL authorities, they said that the mistake was mine, and they couldn't do anything. I din't get any sort of refund for it. Due to other reasons i couldn't take the matter to a public forum like this. But now i have encountered the same problem again.

    I take special care to make sure that my modem is reset before the starting of the night download cycle at 2:05am, and then again after the download's are over at 7:55am. Inspite of doing this, i see that there are some other problems with the BSNL servers, due to which such an error is being shown

    If you can: post a screenshot (JPG) of usage from 20th May indivudual entries. as attachment here.

    I also use data.bsnl.in and metering automatically changes at 0200AM and 0800 AM. My Usage is U/L .


    Unable to post 0200AM change over as I normally switch off system at about 0130AM. Usually no download/surfing 0130AM to 0630AM.


    3. If you can show heavy d/l previous days 02-08AM A.O may waive
    this usage.

    You have to convince A.O that this is a metering fault by
    referring at least previous 3 months BB usage.
    ( Years back :STD calls excess billing , usage pattern was checked for say previous 3 or 6 months )

    I have the BB usage log's from the time i took the broadband connection. I use the night download facility very much and on an average my total volume usage per month is approx 30GB+ (Including Night Unlimited Usage). What else do i need to convince the authorities that this a metering fault? Can you please assist me?

    Without waiting for the bill (MAY 2011), give an application now itself.
    to ignore this usage on 21st/22nd May.Get receipt from CC in your copy.

    A.O will not get BB billing details now. ( may be in First week of June )

    you said, server will automatically splits the usage. but it doesn't. I am keeping my connection alive and will start browsing at 2.05 AM. I checked usage. but they charged.
    the time of bsnl server is wrong. by this, night unlimited period will be 5 hrs and 40 minutes.

    Bsnl portal data.bsnl.in DOES split the d/l metering at 0200AM and 0800AM. for all tariff plans including U/L H24 like mine see post no 17.)
    Selfcare portals also show Day usage and Night usage separately.

    In this case the splitting has not taken place .
    If the user compares other days NU: point will be clear.

    complaints like this are very few now.

    If the metering by BSNL is wrong, their clock does not show correct time , better to change over to another ISP !

    I have suggested users to download NetworX /Shaplus and compare the
    readings for accuracy errors etc., so that you can be careful ,and take precautions.

    Even though by default the bsnl portal splits the d/l metering at 0200 and 0800 hours for all tariff plans, there are times when it doesn't get split. It is this kind of error that is creating problems for users like me, who use the night unlimited period a lot. The error doesn't occur everyday, but it does occur once in a while.
    BSNL must take measures to make sure that this error doesn't happen.

    If other users of data.bsnl.in post the data for May21st/22nd
    your complaint may be accepted, and full usage waived.Whether it is for a particular circle or for all, I am not sure.

    Just checked : No readings for 23rd and 24th May seen.
    Chennai circle.
