Follow exactly the settings given in this web site.
Chennai Telephones- Changing password in DataOne Pre-configured modem

    wifi Channel can be 6 0R 11.
    try without any security Key.

Confirm laptop works in wifi mode ( also OS used )
    for further suggestions.

    From that site:

"Type against WPA Pre Shared key -a key , for example say 12345678"
Oh, great... now we know how to access a whole lot of BSNL wifi routers!

I think, you said you are from U.K( with English as your mother tongue).
If you understood "for example 12345678 " to mean that ALL/Many BSNL Indian Broadband users will use this security key, you are showing your prejudice.

You can access my wifi network and have changed it to 12345678 for your benefit !!!!

Leave out the "Indian". My prejudice against computer users all over the world.

I'm sure you know as well as I do that the average user won't think far beyond that.

It's not prejudice, it's reality. And even I, in another thread a while back, admitted to having a modem (then) with the default password.

People do not take security seriously, and instructions like that one from BSNL are not going to encourage them. All it would have taken would have been another line or two.

Yes, many of the readers of that page will follow it literally. They would in UK too, so kindly do not imply that I am implying that race has anything to do with it.

Post a screen shot of your modem's wireless page.

Default Refresh Wireless option by clicking APPLY

In most of the problems I have seen one has to login into NOKIA SIEMENS modem through LAN Cable using 192.168.1.1(User: admin, pass: admin)
    Then go to
    Wireless -> Basic->Click Save/Apply.
In such type of problems you have to do everytime when you switch on the modem.
