    Default Dataone mail

No one answered my earlier question.

I can't connect to dataone mail using my normal log=in name and password. What am I doing wrong?

What's wrong is that you are relying on dataone mail for communication purposes. Switch to other better mail services like gmail... Dataone mail sounds so gay... No offense meant dude.

That aside... I don't know what's wrong with your login. You can inquire at your local office regarding the login info or wait for someone to post a pertinent reply.

Thanks. I am already using gmail.

You are right - I should not bother with dataone mail. I was just curious why I can't log in. And my phone calls to BSNL either never went through or never brought me any satisfactory answer.

I will leave it at that.

That is typical of BSNL.... Calls to customer care center almost never reaches to a real person. I remember, one fine day, waiting almost 15 minutes before i decided to hang up on the phone - All this because i wanted to inquire about billing issues.

Anyway enjoy gmail and to hell with dataone mail...hehe

    Cheers

    .
If you have configuerd modem give DNS values as 0.0.0.0 and 0.0.0.0 instead of 61.1.96.69 and 61.1.96.71. and for ppoe dialup put DNS as 192.168.1.1
    and try

    Dear Swarsin,

The same case with me too. However, when I went to Regional Telephone H.Q at Kolkata, the technician got it right. Here is how...

He told me that there are 2 servers for Dataone Broadbands:
    1. DataOne broadband server (using the id & password which u use to connect/dial to the broadband)
    2. DataOne Mail server

Now the thing is that when DataOne first provided u with the id and password to use the broadband, that id & pwd applied for both the servers. Now, what happened in case of me is that I changed the broadband log-in pwd and tried to log in to the dataone mail server with the changed pwd.

The technician told me to use the default pwd provided by BSNL to u at first. Once I log-in with that pwd, it was a breeze! I was into DataOne e-mailing service! Then I changed the mail server pwd (as u do with any email eg. gmail, etc).

Try to do these preliminary steps, then revert back to me.

    Thanks. That solves the mystery.

I am not really interested in dataone mail. I use gmail which also allows me to download mail through Outlook Express.

But it bothered me why I can't log in to dataone mail. I don't remember my original password given to me at the time I subscribed to BSNL broadband. And it would be too much of a bother to contact BSNL in this regard. Their customer service numbers almost never function and even when your call goes through, satisfactory answers are hard to come by.

So long live gmail. And who bothers about dataone mail.

    Dear Swarsin,

Though Gmail is by far and large one of the best email programs on the planet, but the beauty of DataOne mail lies somewhere else. This can come beneficial if u try to synchronize it with either Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook, there by giving u more customization options, that these contemporary programs fail to provide (eg. Defining Message Rules, etc).
However, there are ways by which yahoomail & gmail can be synchronized with Outlook Express and MS Outlook. But that's hectic thing, First u've to download the specific POP3 server application and.... it goes a long way round!
And above all, how many people know it dear?

    Dear sou1234321

Gmail freely allows everyone to access it through a POP client like MS Outlook/Outlook Express. I can use gmail's own filters on its servers and, of course, I can use MS Outlook's message rules.

Gmail also allows the mail to be forwarded to another email address specified by you. And all this for free.
