Default Download Speed very low on BB Combo 500

    Hi Friends,

This is my first post.previously i was a UL750 customer from which i was getting 60 KB/s above on IDM,Jdownloader and 55 KB/s above consistently on torrents(utorrent, tixati, vuze) .since I'm a movie freak i wanted to download films more quickly especially from torrents and some from File sharing sites.so i opted for BB combo 500(2-8 am unlimited )which gives D/s on IDM and Jdownlloader above 180 KB/s which is very much satisfactory. The problem is on well seeded torrents I'm getting very low speeds which fluctuates consistently like it would take 2-4 minutes to reach download speed of 140 Kb/s(sometimes 170) and suddenly drops to 20 Kb/s and then slowly increases to 140.This fluctuation is constant and I'm not getting consistent speeds(170-180 KB/s)which i should i get for my torrents.I tried it on utorrent, vuze etc and even on another OS ubuntu 10.10.The result is all the same.On average 4GB(2 HD Films) which i should have downloaded over one night it's still not over 2 days of downloading(2-8 am).I'm very much frustrated with this and losing my sleep.A friend of mine who lives nearby has the same plan and has no problems.what should i do now?? can anyone help me???any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in Advance

If it happens only for you, it can be due to poor line condition. You may also try port forwarding for torrents. Go to portforward.com and select the guide for your modem. Also post the SNR and attenuation values.

    snr margin-20.1 (DS) 30.8(US)
    attenuation-37.5(DS) 20.5(US)

snr margin-DS is fluctuating what does this value mean ??are they normal for bb combo 500 plan???

I forgot to mention one thing that my modem keeps disconnecting frequently especially when phone call comes and i had to put the receiver of the phone out to connect to internet again(only that way i could reconnect).but i got d/s of 55 KB/s consistently from ul 750.has this something to do with the problem I'm facing now.plz reply

Get your line checked by the line man. Ask him to remove joints and non insulated parts.

Try Bridge mode and check. All ports are open by default.

if your SNR/attenuation is bad it's highly likely that the line between your computer and the nearest junction box is faulty. Go outside and manually check for breaks in the wire.

BSNL wires are really low quality and often degrade.

To solve the problem contact BSNL's phone support number (not the one for internet).

It usually takes 2-3 days for a line man to come and check it.

I agree all of them above. You need to check line condition. I was facing problem from 4 months. I've checked my line, wires are replaced,However, not all the way down, my speed plunged from 20KBps to 90KBps, I had another problem i.e. faulty splitter. Replacing that, I've got a speed of 217 KBps. Have your line checked..........
